Why does the job exist?
This position provides technical support to multiple state and federal agencies that utilize the Department of Information Technology's Public Safety Enterprise 2-way radio communications. Incumbent responds, on a rotating schedule, to call-back at any hour of the day, on weekends, and holidays, for communications system diagnostic and restoration.
How does it get done?
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to installation, maintenance and repair of mobile and portable radios, 2-way radio base stations repeaters and digital microwave radios. The position requires the incumbent to be available at the Radio Shop to handle walk-in repairs and to perform field work as required.

Multiple State and Federal agencies.
Ideal Candidate
The Ideal Candidate has:
- One to two years' experience working with Radio Frequency (RF) technology, Digital Microwave technology and/or Land Mobile Radio (LMR) technology;
- Basic IT networking and computer skills to include transferring files and use of Microsoft Office applications;
- Certifications that apply to Electronics, Radio Frequency, Land Mobile Radio or Microwave Digital technology.
Minimum Qualification
Associate's degree in Computer Science, Management Information Systems (MIS), Information Technology, Engineering or similar technical degree and two (2) years of experience in end user support, systems administration or network administration. Substitutions Apply. See Substitution Table below.

Employment Requirements
Must possess a valid New Mexico Driver's License; obtain Defensive Driving Certification within 30 days of employment. Pre-employment background investigation is required and employment is conditional pending results. .
Working Conditions
Very long hours (10-12 hour days) are sometimes necessary to cope with system problems. Driving long distances (500 mile round trips) is sometimes necessary on improved and unimproved roads. Lifting in excess of 50 - 70 pounds is not uncommon. Occasional climbing steel communication towers to 300 feet is in all types of weather conditions. Transportation and operation of All-Terrain vehicles in mountainous terrain is required. Working in odd physical postures is necessary when installing or repairing radio equipment in vehicles and on other remote site installations

If I could find it I have a picture of one of th state techs upside down feet touching ceiling in a nmsp Taurus up under the dash. He isnt a light fellow either but definitely a good career specially working on the DOT trucks though I've seen some iffy installs on the dot trucks.
