does anyone monitor these and if so what are they used for? I haven't gotten around to entering them yet,I'm assuming they can be used as extra car-to-car channels.

i have had these (lowpower) channels in my 250-D for quite sometime , i travel up and down 91 Sringfield to Hartford everyday not once but twice a day , and have never recieved anything , except Ma. state police on 868.9375 which use this freq up in the quabin reservoir area. i thought i did hear 2 ct troopers make a reference to low power about a month ago , but not paying attention i dont know if they were talking about freqs. but no , i havnt ever heard anything on them , when in conventional mode i would assume these have a pl. or dpl programmed in them . thats my 2 cents.

Basically "tac" channels that are used for events, crime scene work and whatnot. They are also good for in building comms and other things that the boys may not want thru the system (remember, taped 24/7).

Low power off the portables are 1 watt (high is 4) and mobiles will transmit around 1-5 watts (would have to break out the service manual).

So, unless your right near them, your not going to hear squat.

I did read someplace when the TRS was new that activity was heard on a low power channel that was said to sound like Troopers doing traffic at an OT road construction job. At some point I'll get around to entering the frequencies in my scanner!
