LIndsey,

I asked a guy on batlabs a while back this question, since he's a dispatcher for Wisconsin, and he told me that since it was only in a small area, only select people got to use it..

That was annoying… I just typed a loooong post only to have it disappear in mid sentence to be replaced by a 404 message.

I’ll try this again.

I know this isn’t exactly a trunking question but… Can I take it from this thread that the old conventional analog system is still in use?

If so, there are both low band and VHF listed on Police Call for the State police category. Which is active State Patrol?

There are over 100 VHF listed. Any idea which ones are active? This could save me a lot of programming if I can be selective to the areas I will be traveling through.

I will be traveling I-94 through Racine, Milwaukee and up 41 to Oshkosh.

Many thanks for any help!!! Rob

Howdy...

WI state patrol is using VHF conventional for statewide operations. Only some parts of southwestern Wisconsin are using this VHF Astro. If you're passing through Racine/Kenosha counties to get to Oshkosh this will not affect you at all.

District 2 - Wisconsin State Patrol
(Racine / Kenosha / Waukesha Counties)

155.445 Dispatch
151.460 Car to Car

District 3 - Wisconsin State Patrol
(Washington / Fond Du Lac / Winnebago Counties)

154.935 Dispatch
151.460 Car to Car

Does anyone know what the offset freq for this system is? Starting to get into the trunking part and wondering how it works and what it is.
Thanks for the help.

In the "For what it's worth" department:

151.460 is not considered our "car to car" freq...it's official designation is "Statewide", and other agencies have access to it on a limited basis.

The output of each district dispatch repeater is designated as "car to car" for units to talk to each other, and this allows each district comm center to monitor the talkaround traffic from the cars.

The system is still up, and is in limited use with various three letter state agencies. There is not much traffic worth hearing on it. It covers the I-39/90/94 cooridor from the IL state line to the Black River Falls area. It was not meant to cover anywhere except the interstate cooridor and the surrounding areas.

It will not be expanded due to lack of available VHF frequencies...unlike NHP, we asked first 8)

Ask them what, exactly :?:  :? :?: Unless your WSP neighbor is in BOC or is a trooper with an ASTRO radio in their car, then they probably can't help you with much.

If you have a radio with CTCSS squelch the 146.2 is the subaudible tone that will open the squelch. Any other transmissions or noise won't open the squelch.

Most older or cheaper scanners don't have this so if yours isn't an expensive and/or newer model you won't need to worry about it.
