Mr Google and Ms Altavista, come to our rescue, maybe

Not really. None of those links have anything to do with the discussion. It was probably just somebody seeing a digit wrong here or there, no big deal.

The bumper sticker said Monitoring 140.600 Mhz and that is what it said on the Bumper sticker on the back of the car.My Fellow Ham Friend was follwoing the car when he told me about this on the local repeater and he is not having vision problems.*I asked him twice about this and both times he told me the frequency on the bumper sticker was 140.600* and asked me on the air if I knew of anyone in the Metro Indianapolis/Marion County area was on that Frequency.I advised him that would be a federal agency or Military in the 136-144Mhz area of the communications spectium*.The Frequency is 140.600 and nothing elese and he did not misread the bumper sticker.*

Could have been something else and the guy modified it, or somebody scratched another number in. Who knows.

So why didn't he just try to contact him on the air and ask?

+1 I think he read it wrong also. Sometimes no matter how much you look at something it will look the way you want it to right or wrong.

Or its there to make people ask questions like it has here.

We will never know either way

We each see things through our own mental filters.

I'm betting the ham saw the oval 140.6 sticker and assumed that it meant a frequency and was an announcement that the driver was listening to that frequency.

Oddly enough, today I saw a Suburban with white, oval stickers that had "140.6", in black, on it. There were about 6 of them lined up along the rear window. There was other writing on the stickers, below the numbers. Too small to read as we were passing. It only caught my eye because I read this thread yesterday. No antennas other than the am/fm that I could see.

Urban Dictionary: 140.6

That makes more sense than the original report. My guess is that the ham saw 140.6, thought it meant "monitoring 140.600MHz" and kids game of "operator" was at work the rest of the way.

Tri Athlete boast sticker.

I was just talking to a neighbor who with his wife is big into marathon running and ironman type events and low and behold he has this white oval sticker on his car just as described...and he explained it as an identifier of a fanatical tri athlete. He got his 140.6 sticker at an event in California from some running shoe booth.
I guess this nails it...Person "thought" he saw monitoring on the sticker.

Monitoring 140.6 makes no sense. WHEN in DOUBT...GOOGLE it!
