Skywarn
Sometimes Stormchasers and Skywarn(NWS) Volunteers get thrown into the same bucket.
Skywarn Volunteers are just that, and report weather activity via a radio net.
Try the 145-148 Mhz search range or try 146.760 for the Lincoln repeater. Also reports can also be phoned if no net is available or the Skywarn person may not be a Ham.
The Stormchasers are more hobbist or someone who may be out to make a quick buck and sell Photo or Videos. As a prime example of what happend here in Middle Tn last week.
Skywarn volunteers are a valuable asset to the NWS (National Weather Serv.) The are the eyes on the ground to verify what the radar see's.
Here in Tn the higher populated counties will have a net during serious storms in each affected county.
Hope this sheds some light on the diffences between the 2 definitions.
Be safe out that way.
