I programmed a set of "common Military" freqs from RR in my bcd996p2 and kept randomly hearing what sounded like a pre recorded female voice saying phonetic letters (alpha, tango, sierra etc etc) for roughly a minute or so....then "this is Tribesman, out!" I researched but didnt come up with anything definite. But a web site mentioned "EAM" messages. These locations came up for that frequency:

311.000 VQ-4 Det, NAS Patuxent River MD
311.000 PA ANG, 171st ARW "Steel Control" Pittsburgh PA
311.000 East Coast TACAMO EAM broadcast
311.000 104th FS MD ANG A-10s Martin State Airport A-A

I am in RI so I dont think I would hear anything from MD, PA or Martin State Airport, but the East Coast TACAMO EAM broadcast
is a possibility. This might be a common thing for the seasoned milair listeners but its new to me.

311.0000 MHz AM is a long time frequency used by the former Strategic Air Command [SAC], the former Global Strike Command, and the present Strategic Command [STRATCOM].

If you are near an Air Force Base or a civilian airport with a USAF tasking such as aerial refuelling, secondary basing for combat aircraft, etc., it is possible to hear EAM messaging on 311.0 or even discrete Federal frequencies.

Lots of aircraft other than bombers and the E-4B / E-6B aircraft use it.

Interesting....I have roughly a 220 (on a good day) mile range that my scanner and acarsdec can decode. I wonder if I would be able to spot that e6 using dump1090? Or maybe the program doesnt deal with military aircraft.

There are many air bases within 50-60 miles of me. And Quonset Point 2 towns south of here which has Air Force and Army installations at the airport there. Newport NAS across bay from here. Some refueling and exercises on UHF milair freqs I have heard over Cape Cod.

Very often heard EAMs from TACAMO aircraft all along the E Coast for many decades. It is always transmitted in parallel with 323.8 (but many do not notice that as their scanner stopped scanning when it found them doing it on 311.0). It is not pre-recorded.

Hi this also happens in areas were they still have birds in the ground, I hear them at quite frequently on 311.0, 323.8, 11175 and others.

Heard the same on 311.0000 driving 95NB in NH last night. I have this channel programmed as MANIAC OPs for MANG.

They were on HF as well (which is not unusual), but this will confirm the callsign used. (From an associate who monitors HF daily & posts his logs on the MilitaryScan Group on Groups.io):

I get the same thing on the same frequency. But it's a man's voice and it will last 5 minutes

Is there a way to set dump1090 to receive military aircraft only like on the regular ads-b website, with filters?
Not by yourself, unless the military aircraft has their civilian mode transponder on. MLAT is used to find them, here is a description of how.

FWIW, in my neck of the woods (Utah) this is used by the Utah Air National Guard KC-135's, to talk to their base (Utah Control).
