If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

I'm attempting to boot cps for the xts3000 in a x32bit Windows xp Virtualbox, the install was a success, however when I boot the program, it throws the error " unable to find file specified " and crashes. I then attempted to run the program on my physical PC which is running x64bit Windows10. Yes I'm aware I wont be able to read/write the radio, I just wanted to test the launch. It turns out the program will in fact load normally on my PC with no errors thrown, which makes no sense to me, seeing as both installs were identical besides being on 2 different OS's. Any tips would be appreciated, thanks. (Yes I considered getting a real XP laptop with an RS232 port.)

FYI, I've had flawless performance out of machines running Windows 7 with the Astro and Astro 25 software. You don't have to revert to XP to make it work.
Oh, should have mentioned it above, I also ran cps on a Windows Vista x32 VM, and Windows10 x32 bit VM as a test with the same error being given, I have tried on other OS's believe me, but it still only loaded correctly on a physical Win10x64 installation.

I've never had any problems running CPS for Quantar, Astro Saber, Astro25, APX etc on a VMWare Fusion virtual machine on Mac, but it had to be a Windows 7 32-bit install. x64 was kind of flaky so I stuck with x32.

I now use CF30 and CF53 Toughbooks running Windows 7 x32 for nearly all my programming. Works like a charm.

I realize this thread is a year old, but I had the same issue as the OP. I started with a fresh install of Windows 7 32 bit on a spare laptop. I received the error "unable to find file specified" when launching CPS. It turns out the problem in my situation was that I had not inserted the USB to RS232 serial adapter into this freshly installed copy of windows for plug and play to install drivers and a virtual serial port. Once the computer had the drivers installed, Astro Saber & XTS 3000 CPS started without error and the problem was solved.
