Does anybody know what the talkgroup ID is for Strathmore RCMP (155.550)? Do they even use a trunked system or am I wasting my time?

The Alberta RCMP VHF frequencies are not trunked, they are conventional repeaters. You can monitor them with or without the CTCSS tones programmed into your scanner.

Yes. Program them conventionally and if you have the ability to have CTCSS tones in your scanner, put them in as well.

Currently, there are no rural police agencies in Alberta using trunked radio systems. The installation of a province-wide trunk system for all emergency services is currently under development by the Office of the Solicitor General and is at least 12 to 24 months away.

You will find these sections of the database to be of benefit.

It appears it doesn't, according to the manual. That's a surprise considering it's a modern scanner.

Ignore the CTCSS or PL tone listed in the database. CTCSS stands for Continuous Tone Coded Squelch System, and PL is just another way to say it (it's Motorola's trademarked name, "Private-Line"). The way it's used on the RCMP system is that each frequency is used twice in the same geographic area. Repeater B7, 155.5500, is Strathmore; but Repeater B2, also 155.5500, is Cochrane. You will be able to hear both with your scanner, since you can't "lock out" B2 by entering B7's CTCSS tone. If you could enter the right CTCSS tone, you'd hear only those transmissions that originate from Strathmore crews.

Quick question?? Does Strathmore simucast on B4 at night. I hear dispatch calling Strathmore units on B4 all the time. Or is this due to the fact that Chestermere closest backup is Strathmore???

Are you sure that's B4? In rural areas of Strathmore's area, west of the town, in between there and Calgary, the A4 repeater is better than B7. A4 covers almost all of the entire rural environs of the Calgary area and routinely has the Tsuu T'ina (Sarcee) tribal police, Chestermere, and Strathmore as well as any crews working in Calgary on it

I don't know about eastside stuff. I live west of Calgary, so I don't get to hear stuff much further east than Strathmore that often.

You might want to visit the scanlethbridge.com website. There's a guy on there who is in Strathmore, or in the general area.. he runs a streaming feed as well. He should have some decent info. I don't think he's on RR at all.
