"Error Syncing to Stream"

I also tried to just click on the link that you provided, it opened an IE window and tried to connect to 192.168.1.100:8000. This is a private (internal) IP address. You are pointing your link (and/or no-ip.com client) to the internal IP. You need to get into your router and find your external IP address and set it up with that. I had the exact same problem.

Good luck,
Chris

Thanks..If I use my internet IP it will not connect as I have other computers on my home network. Can you try pasting http://pinellas.no-ip.net into Winamp to see if it plays? My internet IP is 71.99.87.179 and I am using www.no-ip.com for a redirect to port 8000 and if I use 71.99.87.179 nothing happens... pinellas.no-ip.net redirects it to my computer that uses ip 192.168.1.100 I am trying to run a scanner off of this computer using SimpleCast and IceCast. I went into my router setup and everything seem to be set as needed. I have no place to change anything. Maybe I am thinking about this wrong? Where in my router will I change this? I am using a linksys wireless WRT54GS router..Thanks..Keithmj

Now I get "connecting," then "timed out." I pasted it into Winamp the first time as well.

"Port Forwarding" in your router is where you need to be. In my router, a Linksys WRT54GP2, there is a tab for "Applications and Gaming." In that, I set port 8006 (my streaming port) to forward to x.x.x.102. The first three octets are assigned, and .102 is the IP address of the PC that my scanner is connected to. So, if you forward 8000 to x.x.x.100 (which should be 192.168.1.100), then I should be able to connect. Check your router documentation for instructions on port forwarding.

By the way, I have three PCs on my home network, and this works just fine for me.

Good luck (again),
Chris

In addition, if you use the DHCP server to assign IPs to specific computers (vs. allowing the router to make up its own IP addresses), you'll avoid some problems and make setup easier.

Oops... I forgot that part. :) Thanks, RoInCode3.

The big reason for this step is that if you allow the router to assign its own addresses, then your internal IP address could potentially change, just like the external one can. Without this step, then your step could one day be invalid and you'll have a hard time figuring out why.

So, no-ip.com for the external, and static IP addressing on the internal.

Again, the staic IP thing within your router is worth looking in to. Check your appendices in your manual. Should address this.

Also, in your icecast config file, make sure that your host address is set to your no-ip address and that the listening socket parameter is appropriately set as well.

Beyond that, reconfirm that your router is fowarding the proper port to the proper computer.

After working on this all day here is what I came up with. I figured this might shed some light on the problem..If I PASTE this http://pinellas.no-ip.net/live into my Winamp player I can get the player to play it but if I take the /live off of it then it will give me an error..If I paste it into the address bar it will try to save it to a file. If I paste it without the /live in it it will open a IceCast status window where I can click on play..I hope this helps..Thanks..Keithmj

Bingo. Now you've got it! I'm listening to something about "Filthy Phyllis," something concerning a bar. I swear that is what the guy just said :)

Good job, Keith. I knew you'd eventually get it.

Just to confirm that you understand why you need "live".

That is the mount name that Icecast uses by default. If you didn't change the config file for Icecast, then most likely your settings just happened to work.

If you go into the config file, you will see an area called <mount> and can create multiple mount names.

You can get to the Icecast status screen by using the IP address and the port number. For example, mine is http://sacscannerfeed.no-ip.org:8080

Also, if you set up the admin login information, you can kill the server source, move listeners, kick listeners, and look at some statistics. Helpful if you have a single IP with a bunch of open connections that's obviously in error (or any other problem).

Hi Guys..I was still having problems and still have problems but don't know how to correct them..In SimpleCast in server details in Server IP the setting of LocalHost keeps changing to LocalPort when I start my computer and in the Mount section I have /live and I have to put /live on the end of pinellas.no-ip.net so it reads pinellas.no-ip.net/live before it will play. How do I correct this? I should just be able to play it with just http://pinellas.no-ip.net
Thanks..Keithmj
Then my router acted up and I had to redo all my internet connections and network so that is why it hasn't been working lately

Simplecast saves its settings on exit. Make sure you have the right settings set and then close Simplecast. When you open it back up, it should be right.

As far as the mount goes, yes, you do need to specify the mount name. This is actually a feature of Icecast. You can have SEVERAL different feeds running through the same server. Each one has a name and thus you need to specifiy which mount you want to listen to.

So "localhost" keeps changing to "8000"? That doesn't make any sense.

Do you mean "localhost" changes to "127.0.0.1" or it changes to something like "192.168.0.X"?

You will NOT be able to play the feed with just the IP without "/live" on the end of it unless you do some type of forwarding or can somehow create an index that forwards to that port. That's beyond my know-how. Short answer, though, is that the mount name must be attached tot he IP.

Localhost was changing to localport..But that is fixed..Was just wondering. I am using port 8000 on one computer and I have another computer that I am setting up and this is using the same router as the other computer. It will not let me set the other IP address to the same port so I have to use another one. My question is how do you know what ports to use. What would be another port to use? This is a Linksys wireless WRT54GS router. What I did is set the streaming audio up on the one computer and I am moving it to the desktop computer that will be on all the time..Cheers..Keithmj

IP addresses and ports are not the same thing.

You could run Simplecast sessions on two different computers, but if you want them to both be broadcast on the same port you'll need to forward everything together. The biggest problem here will be to keep the port numbers and the internal IP addresses all correct.

So your settings will need to look like:

Computer 1:
Icecast port 8000
Simplecast (forwarding to port 8000 on IP 127.0.0.1, or "localhost" - those two are the same thing, or the IP that your router assigned to the computer running Icecast)

Computer 2:
Simplecast (forwarding to port 8000 on IP 192.168.1.XXX or whatever your router has assigned as the IP to the computer running Icecast)

Something that I don't understand..Before if I clicked on http://pinellas.no-ip.net/live I would get the IceCast Status window. Now when I click on it, it post up a window but asks if I want to save it or open it? But if I paste http://pinellas.no-ip.net/live into my Winamp player it will play the scanner. I also setup http://county.no-ip.net/live2 on another computer and it does the same thing..I tried the cloaking feature in www.no-ip.com and it didn't make any difference..If I put in the IP address with :8000 or :8080 at the end it will play but not if I use the text..What am I omitting?...Thanks..Keithmj

UPDATE: If I just put in http://county.no-ip.net/ or http://pinellas.no-ip.net/ the Status window will come up..

If I'm not mistaken, your feed actually comes through as a m3u file. Click the first link (the one that asks if you want to save or open) and see if it is m3u file. If so, your PC doesn't know what to do with that. I THINK (bot not 100% sure) that if you go to Windows Explorer, Tools, Folder Options, File Types, then associate m3u files with Winamp. Try it and see what happens. When I click on that first link above, it opens with Windows Media Player on my PC.
