From Strongsville Fire Chief Jack Draves:

The City of Strongsville announced on July 30, 2025 their intent to transfer emergency dispatching services from the Southwest Emergency Dispatch Center (SWEDC) in Strongsville to Chagrin Valley Regional Dispatch (CVRD) in Bedford, Ohio. This transfer of services should be completed on or before February 2, 2026. As you know Olmsted Falls and Olmsted Township left SWEDC at the beginning of 2025 to join the North Olmsted Dispatch and Berea announced recently their intent to join North Olmsted Dispatch on December 1, 2025. This left only four communities in SWEDC (Brook Park, Middleburg Hts., North Royalton, and Strongsville). CVRD currently dispatches for 33 communities. We anticipate SWEDC dispatchers taking positions with CVRD and most likely they will remain operating out of our current center for the next 18 months while CVRD constructs a new dispatch center in Bedford, OH. There will be more information in the coming days, weeks, and months as we approach the transition date.

Comment from North Royalton Mayor

“Hello,
I want to make everyone aware that we received a formal notice, on July 30, from the City of Strongsville that they will no longer provide public safety dispatch services, effective Feb. 1, 2026. This will affect not only our agreement with Strongsville, but the other member cities as well.
We immediately began exploring other options, with the guidance of our Police and Fire chiefs, and will let council know as soon as we have more information.
Mayor Larry Antoskiewicz
