and when you get your license USE THE RADIO LOTS . i sat here yesterday listening to a 57 repeater moniter plus 22 simplex slots not a soul broke the silence all day. i did hit every repeater with callsign and cq nobody. sad the equipment set up to use and nobody using it..
im stuck beside my radios for few days via dr orders .gettin itchy fingers to get out n do stuff.

The networked systems such as Allstar and DMR have plenty of activity.

Yes but im pointing out whats not used and im done buying radios n equipment. When i got relicensed 6 years ago lots were on what i listed.
What happened is a lot of the analog repeater users moved to digital repeaters and hotspots where you can talk to Amateur Radio stations worldwide from an HT. As @bill4long pointed out, the digital world is quite busy. I have access to all of the digital systems and some talkgroups/rooms have activity all the time. If you haven’t been exposed to the digital world yet, seek out a ham who has digital capability and take a listen. You will be amazed how busy things are.

i have ftm 200 i can hook to my pc n go world wide. i just cant get into that mode. matter of fact yesterday my good rafio friend n i had a lengthy phone call n that was discussed as well as the 3 new repeaters in our area that are used very little.
but at 9 pm i got on the shell knob net some 75 miles away. the guy that runs the net and 1 were the only ones talking. but was a great discussion about range height and signal quality. i uess im odd but the digital rage is not my cup o tea.
used to be a few of us that liked to try distant talk.but 1 died ,the other had to move into a restricted housing that allows no radios
