Your home-made antenna reminds me of the bunch of antennas that I made using 35mm film cassettes (the ones that you put on the camera) and pieces of hangers.

the "cantenna" only cost me about $2. The wire used is a metal coat hanger cut to length for 1/4 wave 380MHz.

There back again with another miracle antenna! This one looks like a UHF satcom antenna and claims HF through 2.4GHz with an SWR of 1:38 to 1:54. Imagine the engineering required to keep the SWR within such a tight range. It has "embedded resistors" with one intrinsic resistor per arm. WTF? Oh, and it must be mil-spec cuz they ship to APOs, Embassies, Depots and Barracks. You know only the best government suppliers will ship to the barracks level.
