• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

    Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity.     To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

    This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

I've got another question! :D :D :D

Is there a way to have a tone momentarily go off on the STX radio in talk-around mode when the PTT is pressed, to tell you that you are transmitting?

sorry for the delay... (NEED TO UPDATE MY EMAIL ADDY HERE)

there is an option to tell the radio in RSS if its secure or not, even if its not a secure capable radio, set the option to ON in RSS

once its on, you can enable "Clear TX alert tone"

it wont do the BEEDEEDEEDEEPP like on trunking, but will beep once when you press PTT...

this trick works on other motorolas as well.

RSS is radio service software, you will need a SLOW computer, a RIB (radio interface box) and the STX programming cable.

several people on this board im sure can program it, but i would imagine they would shy away from putting it on a trunked system (you would need the system key anyway)

check out www.batlabs.com for more info.

the STX is not keypad programmable (most commercial radios are not)

Quite a few of the newer radios will report an error if the actual encryption hardware is not present. I had this problem on an mcs2000 I bought a while ago. Radio functioned fine except a fail code on power up. Turned out the encryption module had been removed and the seller had not bothered to reprogram the radio.
