I am glad this subject is on the forum. We are planning to travel from the US to the Banff area. I was wondering if brining my scanner with me on our trip and if monitoring mobile was permitted.

No problem with having a scanner in vehicle in Alberta. It will depend on the type of scanner you have. Only problem is there is very little interesting things that are now not encrypted. Don't expect to hear much during the G7 meeting as this will be encrypted.

Thank you for your response. Have gotten used to listening to less "interesting" things, I do enjoy railfaning and looks like there will be some of that in the area. Our visit is after the G7, so hopefully things will be back to normal by then :) I have a SDS200 with GPS tuning. Now I have to figure out using my ham radio gear with APRS while in Canada.

Not that you will probably need to show it, bring a copy of your license, and sign *your callsign*/VE6 when in Alberta or *your callsign*/VE7 if in BC.

I can't help with APRS settings, been years since I had any interest in it.

I see you will be going to Banff. There will be lots of interesting activity on the VHF analog Canada Parks frequencies which are in the database.
Don't know if the Banff Springs Hotel LTR system is still on the air but it can also be interesting
