The Regional Wireless Cooperative looks to consist of 18 repeater sites, however only 8 are shown as "Simulcast" in Radio Reference. The Maricopa County (P25) looks to be comprised of 17 repeater sites, however only 9 are shown as "Simulcast".

My question is, are ALL these repeater sites for these two systems doing Simulcast or only those marked as such?

White Tanks repeaters give me the stronger sigs, so it would be great to be able to remove the others from my scan . . however, I don't want to miss something by deleting a site that isn't marked as Simulcast

"The system infrastructure consists of 53 tower sites, 7 simulcast cells, 975 simulcast channels, and over 200 dispatch consoles." - Ron Parks, Radio Communications Analyst, Chandler Police Department [2019]

Not every site has the need for simulcast and multiple sites can and are contained in given cells. The probability of Tempe FD needing to interface with Peoria PD via the Quintero site are very low and doesn't need to be simulcast. Sites like Burnt Mountain, Far North Mountain, Quintero, Sacaton, etc. are designed to provide coverage to outlying areas serviced by a single jurisdiction and may be supplemented by another jurisdiction.

The RWC White Tanks site sees limited use by law enforcement and fire/EMS users. (Peoria PD A-1, Surprise PD A-1, Phoenix FD K-2, and maybe some of the E-deck talkgroups for the West Valley FD's, as well as it least some of the G-deck and Ocean-deck interoperability talkgroups, and I believe Maricopa County Community Colleges public safety, at least for the Glendale and Estrella CC's.) You'd be better served by using Simulcast G if you live in or near Sun City if you want to hear Phoenix PD A-800 and A-900, Glendale PD A-1, A-4, and A-10 through A-14, Tohono O'odham PD at the Desert Diamond casino, Peoria PD A-4 and any other unencrypted TG's, El Mirage PD A-1, Surprise PD A-6, Tolleson PD A-1, Avondale PD A-1, and the Phoenix FD K and L-decks, as well as any E-deck TG's that come active. (PFD K-7 may not always be carried by Simulcast G. You may want Simulcast B for that TG.)

The Towers Mtn site, by the way, carries Peoria PD A-1, as well as Phoenix FD K-1 and K-6, thanks to Surprise and AFMA North County units affiliating with it. I'm not sure what else it may have.

For MCSO, the Maricopa County White Tanks site should be sufficient for Districts 2 and 3 that cover the West Valley. However, if you want to listen to Districts 5 and 8 at Lake Pleasant, you may need to add the Thompson Peak site, the Anthem/New River simulcast, or the Northeast Mountain simulcast.

Since you have good information about the area :). I'm in Apache Jct. (unincorporated Maricopa Cty Part. Can you tell me which MCSO District that's in to listen to. I seem to get Lots of District 1. I'm new to the area so I dont know all that much yet.

Also its a bummer I have tried to get PHX PD to no avail with outdoor antenna. I even tried with a Yagi. I guess the simulcasts they are on are probably directional maybe towards Phoenix. Yet I can get the good old light rail on So Mtn no problem. Anyways Thanks for any info you might have

Mesa is is in District 1, however due to a dispatcher shortage you will likely hear the east districts (1, 4, 6, and often 5) patched together as they do with the west districts 2 & 3. Phx PD is mostly on Simulcast A of the RWC, however you can often hear the 400 precinct South Mtn on Simulcast C if you can hear it. I am in AJ as well and can usually get several of the RWC sites.

Interesting points in this thread.
I live in Gilbert and I can only get Gilbert PD/FD, Mesa FD, almost all Phoenix Fire K deck ( although I do notice that K1 alarm sometimes comes in and sometimes I can’t get it all from time to time ), and Chandler. I can’t get anything from Phoenix PD, Scottsdale, or Tempe. ( this is all using a portable SDS100 with standard whip antenna ).

Have you tried an 800 mhz antenna like remotronix? My SDS 100 uses that and my SDS 200 uses a small antenna I put on the side of my house. I was surprised that Phx didnt make it either. I see you used to live in CT? I did also. Grew up in Hartford area. Just moved to this area.

Mesa and Gilbert both use the Mesa Topaz system along with Queen Creek, Apache Junction, Fort Mcdowell, and Rio Verde. Should be able to hear all on Mesa Simulcast and Thompson Peak. PhxPD is primarily on Simulcast A of the RWC, occasionally you will hear the 400 Pct South Mtn on Simulcast C due to the overlapping in coverage. Scottsdale PD uses Simulcast H and Thompson Peak, both have decent coverage in the east valley but you may be able to hear Thompson Peak more regularly although that site usually only carries the north channel. Tempe is on Simulcast F and also has decent coverage in the east valley. If your having trouble recieving any of the sites with the stock antenna, try upgrading to an antenna more suited for 700/800mhz reception such as the Remtronix as mentioned above. An outside mounted antenna will give you better reception but may not fall within the guidelines of your HOA or significant other.
