    The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

    For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

That sounds suspiciously bad. There are likely other issues here. Have you tried running the handhelds at a reduced power setting? As long as the repeaters can hear them, should reduce selectivity issues.

I am curious if there are any reputable linear amplifier manufacturers that have models compatible with the fast switching that a digital system would require.
Repeaters don't cycle between transmit and receive like the subscribers do, so any FM linear amplifier will work.

However, based on your description, more power will probably not solve your problem.

And I agree with others that there sounds like something else going on such that increasing the TX is unlikely to solve.
The problem is the "near / far" issue.
Perhaps the portables have really poor selectivity, or TX is VERY dirty.
I didn't recognize the radio model.

Too many variables, now including TG! The OP is relying mostly on second hand reports from users for diagnostics which is a problem.
My way of dealing with things like this is to if at all possible find a way to reproduce the problem on demand. Intermittent issues are a beast. Get a buddy and go to the problem area and try to make problem happen on demand. Look at receive signal strength on receiving radio (some moto’s will let you put them in a service mode showing db readings) and make an informal rf survey of signal strength. Once you have a repeatable fail setup/situation you can now see what helps or eliminates it— all of the things mentioned by posters here. Again, you need to be able to produce and see the fail yourself. Also, really good idea to sit down and plan out your test session logically in advance so you can go right to work onsite. Have a collection of several radios and models to see if they behave differently.

Totally anecdotal but I have observed many times having 2 or more DMR radios sitting next to each other on the same channel and talk group and when traffic comes in on that TG not all radios will unmute. It can vary which radio does unmute. I can only imagine something going on with IF leakage.

Question for the DMR experts here: aren’t there some settings such as preamble which can improve solid sync/lockup?

Apologies for the term 'linear'.

A PA for a FM repeater, rated at 100% duty cycle, will work just fine on many digital repeaters. P25 Phase 1(Non simulcast), DMR, NXDN, Fusion ect.

First off you should not have a 6.6 mhz spread on UHF or whatever the other is. The standard is 5 mhz.

Maybe when I get bored I will attempt to read the rest.
Maybe the OP isn't in the US. I think you should stop reading right about....now.

LMFAO. Better to remain silent, and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth, amd remove all doubt.

Where I live, we have part of the UHF spectrum that uses splits far larger than 5MHz. I've also seen frequency assignments for repeaters that are just 2 random UHF frequencies.

You also forget about T band in the USA, NOT 5MHz splits.
