A friend of mine bought a box of radios and parts. A Kenwood TK-290 was one. He charged the battery and I looked at the label of each the channels. Anyone here can expand the abbreviations? This is channel 1 to 16. Guessing it it the Kansas City area. First is Emporia KS?

Have you looked at the RadioReference database?

Based on my perusal of the Kansas railroad listings:

65 DS -- Emporia Subdivision, Olathe to West Augusta
55 TAXI -- KCT Murray Yard Crew Vans
SF DSM -- ???
TRNR 62 -- KCT Industrial Switching
KC HUMP -- KCT Murray Yard Hump
BWC1 07 -- KCT Murray Yard North Bowl
TPMARC 30 -- KCT Murray Yard West Bowl (though it could be the Arkansas City Sub)
ARK 32 -- Arkansas City Sub West Sand Creek Yard
PAN 72 -- Panhandle Subdivision, Wellington KS to Heman OK
AUX 25 -- ???
CAR WS -- ???
KCT 60 -- KCT Dispatcher
STRG 35 -- Strong City Subdivision, Lost Springs to Superior

36 would be the main channel for the Emporia Sub. 72 would be the main channel for the Panhandle sub. The rest of the abbreviations for the channels I couldn't tell you. They also may not be in use or assigned differently to other yards etc
