Anyone know what the story is behind this? I can hear users on this frequency who transmit on JEMS 1, like one of the agency's I'm with. I would like to put it into my UHF mobile for when I'm in town, and not a second VHF radio. TY

It appears to be a link frequency to bring audio from a receive site on the JEMS1 frequency back to a central location. Also has a directional antenna so depending how far out of the path you go it may drop out.

poor-mans Microwave linking. (Uplinks/Downlinks)
From the FCC license, seems they have a few others.

Does come in handy for hobbyists to be able to listen to that extra Antenna :) vs the one on the scanner :)

'92, I was only asking because, depending on what 'Worx's intentions are regarding his mobile set-up, this may need to be investigated further.

from the Scanner side, you would want the downlink, but keep in mind it is directional, so if you are not in the beam path.... well

I inferred that ITWorx is looking to put it into a mobile transceiver, not just a receiver. Setting aside the usual permission & licensure issues...

This is a link associated with a VHF-high simplex channel; although I don't know for sure, I am comfortable assuming it's linking a satellite receiver and not a satellite transmitter.

If he is close enough to the main site (whatever/ wherever is receiving the link) then he could theoretically use the UHF link frequency to talk to the dispatcher. But nobody else on the JEMS-1 VHF channel will receive him -- this isn't a satellite receiver for a repeater system. And he will receive others' transmissions via the UHF link (including the dispatcher, who would be talking back over the VHF channel) only if he is close to the link transmitter/ its path. And if he's not near the link transmitter then he risks interfering with a legitimate VHF channel user who is getting into the dispatcher through the link, whom he wouldn't hear to know he's interfering with.

So all-in-all it's a bad idea from a technical standpoint, far better to get directly up on the VHF channel (again subject to permission, licensure, etc.).

If this is only being discussed from a receiver (not transceiver) standpoint, and the area of operations is close to the link transmitter, then there is a little more potential value to monitoring the link frequency.
