Sorry, but if that's the case, I think the solution to create your own PayPal account is a no-brainer and I really don't understand why we are even discussing alternative solutions and burning so much time then! Now is the time to rectify your PayPal account issue.

The easiest way I see to do that is roughly as follows (you may want to consult the PayPal support documentation for the details):
  1. Create two temporary e-mail addresses (or aliases for your existing e-mail).
  2. Use first temporary e-mail address to create your new PayPal account.
  3. Ensure you can log in to the new account and set it up completely (e.g. add your funds, post address).
  4. Assign the second e-mail address to the "joint" PayPal account and verify it's working (e.g. you can log in).
  5. Remove your real e-mail address from the "joint" PayPal account and add it to the new account.
At this point, your new account should be fully working. Please verify that (log in works, all personal data added, funds added etc.). You can then remove the first temporary e-mail address from the new account; you will no longer need that and can delete it.

The old "joint" account now uses the second temporary e-mail address. You should check if you may want to back up some transaction data etc. before you delete that account. After account deletion, you can then also delete the second temporary e-mail address.

That's it!

The point why I want to avoid any workarounds (payment by wife or costly wire transfer) is that you may want to upgrade to the Professional Edition in the future and add optional device drivers or plug-ins. For all those future purchases, we would otherwise have exactly the same issue again.

Instead, with the new PayPal account, you have the hassle of account creation and setup only once and can then forget about this issue. And we can finally move on with your order.
