Thought I would ask for clarification on the use of Quick Keys ...
I use them for the Systems, and Dept

I have a Favorite List Labeled "AB 02 Crowsnest County" with Quick Key 2
When I check the "OPTION" it shows 2 and when I look at the "SYSTEM QUICK KEY STATUS" it shows 1,
Under that I have a System "Crowsnest Pass" which shows as 1

I have the System on quick key 02.

When I highlight the System and Press "Edit Favorites List" I see the following:
Favorite list "AB 02 Crowsnest County"
System "Crowsnest Pass"
Department "Fire Dispatch" and "Fire Operations"

Now I think I'm already confusing myself ...

My question is ...

Do I have to click off the used status keys in order for the scanner to scan those Systems/Departments?
What happens if I don't check off the boxes? Will things still be scanned?

Lastly, by checking off all the boxes, does that slow down the scanning process?

Waiting to hear from You ...
Thanks Again

That's an easy one!

Do I have to click off the used status keys in order for the scanner to scan those Systems/Departments? - No, checking is On/scanned, unchecked is Off/not scanned.
What happens if I don't check off the boxes? Will things still be scanned? If the box is unchecked, it won't be scanned.

Checked=On and will be scanned
Unchecked=Off and will NOT be scanned

Explanation and more info:

The Systems/Department Quick Key status boxes merely assign the default status for the Quick Key, either on or off. When the box is checked, the Quick Key is ON by default. If the box is not checked, the Quick Key is OFF by default.

So in other words, if you check the box for System Quick Key 1, the system associated with System Quick 1 is turned ON and you will hear it. (That's assuming it is not shut off for some other mechanism, like setting the Avoid). You can turn this System Quick Key OFF by pressing the appropriate sequence. (And continue to toggle on/off/on/off to your heart's content).

Conversely, if you do NOT check the box for System Quick Key 1, the system associated with System Quick 1 is turned OFF and you will NOT hear it. You can turn this System Quick Key ON and thus hearing it, by pressing the appropriate sequence.

If you were to look at the Profile with the Profile Editor, you will see you can also set a default status for Favorites List Quick Keys.

Here is a real life situation: I do not listen to Public Works channels as a matter of course. These channels are in a separate department with a separate Department Quick Key and that DQK status box is unchecked. Since it is not on, should I have the whim to listen to them, then I have to turn that DQK ON.

So the answer to your last question, does checking off all the boxes slow scanning. If you have Quick Keys assigned to everything, yes because you got everything off and there is nothing to scan.

The interesting part to this Quick Key Status box is this: It sets only the default status, or what the scanner does after you write the programming to it. If you make any changes, such as turning a Quick Key off, then power down your scanner normally, that "new" Quick Key status is "remembered".

(These scanners have a lot of features that some or many users may choose to not use).

Thanks ... for the refresher
It'a starting to come back now.
