Quick Keys Programming Question 325P2/996P2

Question about assigning Quick Keys for a 996P2 using ProScan. I have 1 conventional system (System Quick Key 1) with two groups. I'd like to make the Niagara Frontier Transit Authority System 2 so I can turn it off if not interested. It is a simulcast system which consists of 10 Bus talkgroups. Do I need to assign a Quick Key to the Bus talkgroups? Or would turning off System 2 QK turn off the whole thing so I could just monitor police/fire (System 1)

If the buses are the only thing in your 'System 2", then you could assign a quick key to the system and use that to toggle it on or off. (Since Niagara Frontier is a trunked system, you would not have a "system" quick key. Instead, you set the quick key for the site.) However, I see that there are police talkgroups as well, on that system. Apparently those may be dedicated to he bus & rail systems, not general law enforcement. But if you wanted to leave them active, but 'turn off; the bus TGIDs, then you'd need to do that at the group level. Put the bus TGIDs in a group, with the police related talkgroups in a second group. If you wanted to break down farther, put rail related TGIDs in a third group.

You can then use the group quick keys to focus on whichever portion of the system that you wanted to monitor.

Thanks for the detailed response which I read several times. Still kind of confused...I just want the Busses (not interested in Metro Police).

If you did not program the law enforcement, rail, nor any other set if talkgroups using that site, the scanner would still, though only briefly, try to monitor that site, before moving on to the next active system (trunked or conventional) that you have programmed & is not set as locked out.

If the only talkgroups that interest you on that system are the buses, you could marginally speed up your scanning by setting, and using, a quick key assigned to the site, not the group, to toggle that set of talkgroups on or off. If, instead, you assign a quick key to the Simulcast site, then you can toggle that system on or off using the Site (in lieu of System) quick key. (System keys cannot be assigned on trunked systems. The key is assigned at the site level. For a system that only has one site, as is the case here, toggling the site on or off, adds, or removes, the system from scanning.)

I would note that in your case, using the Site key, it's somewhat easier to toggle that system on or off. You can simply use the quick keys number. If using, instead, a Group quick key, you have to preface that by pressing Function while monitoring the system.

(Side note: I spent over a dozen years maintaining buses used at DFW Airport for car rental customers.)

I appreciate your generous efforts, but I must be dense. I thought that is what I had originally. Just trying to only scan the busses. Is this right below?
