Running the latest T4Win on Win XP SP2, trying to use a Ratshack 2052 as the controlled audio scanner. Having no luck. Input signal is coming from a separate radio, 100% decoding, displaying good info. I am able to control the 2052 with other software on the same PC using the same COM port id'd to T4Win.

Any help appreciated.

The "latest" T4Win is a beta released almost two years ago. It's being replaced - most likely this summer. I don't remember what the differences are between the PRO-2052 and other Uniden radios like the BC895XLT, '245XLT, and 780XLT. You might have to use HyperTerm to put the radio into the appropriate mode before it will accept commands from T4Win.

Will the new version support copy and paste?I have everything in excel and it would make my editing a lot easier since t4win displays hex in the xml file instead of dec and my excel sheets are in dec.

First, I'd like to have the editing capabilities in T4Win such that it's easier to edit everything there compared to editing a flat text file (eg. in notepad) or as a spreadsheet using Excel.

For importing data, the problem with spreadsheets is the columns - which data goes into which column? I'd like to add an import wizard that would allow the user to select (a) the file for import, (b) the destination (for talkgroup data, this would be the radio system into which the TGs are imported) and (c) map the imported data columns to a list of attributes (like talkgroup id, text label, priority, and so on).

Speaking of importing data, I've played with directly importing data from the RR database. It works quite well. You must be a paid RR suscriber. There are some issues to figure out for EDACs and LTR systems - the user might have to pick from a list. For Motorola (and possibly MPT1327) you can tune to the control channel of a new system. Once the system is identified, you press a button (assuming you're online) - provide your RR userid and password - and the talkgroup info from the RR DB shows up in a few seconds.

Was up til 1:00 this morning working on it. Thought I had it figured out, but no luck. I found a post from "cainst" ( thanks cainst ) from Jan 2004 about this subject, where mentions entering the frex in the Output section of T4Win. So I did that for the system I'm monitoring, went thru each channel, named each one and checked the "Listen" checkbox, which made "Yes" appear in the Record column. ( I can't find anything documented about doing this ). Once I did this I figured it would rock. No such luck.

Now my question is - if I was using a receiver that is definitely supported, such as the BC245XLT, etc, have I done everything that T4Win would require to monitor the conversations? Or are there other settings I would make in T4Win before he would control an audio scanner?

Thanks

Look for this capability in the next release of Uni-Trunker (sometime this month) and T4Win (later this summer or early fall).

Can we keep this thread on the original topic?

Solved the problem by running MTrunker and T4Win simultaneously. MTrunker has no problem controlling the 2052.

Sorry JLH.

The "listen" ckeckbox is really for specifying which talkgroups and radio ids you want to monitor.

Now my question is - if I was using a receiver that is definitely supported, such as the BC245XLT, etc, have I done everything that T4Win would require to monitor the conversations?

Looks like you figured this one out on your own.

Rick, that comment was not directed at you, you were just answering questions. I really shouldn't have typed it anyway, my apologies to both of you.

I appreciate all your help, your generosity and your software.

jlh,

Were you able to get the T4Win to control the Pro-2052? I haven't used it since I tried it out back in 2004. I reverted back to using Trunker because I had more control over what talkgroups I was listening to and also the priority.

Steve, no luck on T4Win. Your post from 2004 gave me hope, but still didn't work. I'm running MTrunker to control the 2052, at the same time I run T4Win. Once Rick announced UniTrunker Saturday night, I started running it also. It has no radio control yet.

If you ever have any luck with T4Win, let me know and I'll do the same.

Joe,

If I get a chance this evening I will load T4Win on my computer again and see if I can get it running. I'll keep you posted. I've just been running eTrunker in DOS on a Toshiba Libretto, since it's not too useful for anything else these days.

Ok Steve.

If you remember, do you know where you got the documentation that led you to try the Output stuff that you did? There was nothing like that in my documentation.

Thanks

Joe,

I believe it was just trial and error. I happened to stubble across it and put them in just to see what happened. I just installed the software and I went through the setup wizard. I selected the BC245XLT since this the same control protocol as the PRO-2052. That is the model I also use on the Trunker/eTrunker. Give that a try.

Yeah, that's what I did Steve, no go for me.

Rick, if you're still interested in this thread, where does T4Win store its settings? I can't find a file that contains that info.

Thanks
Joe

Look for an obscure file named "_t4winprefs.xml" or something like that. It is stored (I think) in the "Local Settings" folder of the current user. It's just a text file. Anything worth changing can be done from the program.
