Can't get Kosciusko County 43 (Indiana) talk group to scan. No issue with surround counties. I'm new to the sds200 scanner.

More information needed as I can't look at the database for that county at the moment. What is the talk group for? Police,Fire, EMS etc. Is it possibly encrypted? Do you have the correct service type enabled? Are you close enough to receive it? Alot of variables to consider.

Fire and EMS. yes for service types and close to receive. There is not an E with the D but was wondering if it is encrypted. I know the county has encrypted law enforcement. I can get them on the Broadcastify app. When I us my zip code they don't scan but surrounding counties do. When I put them in a favorite with nothing else scanner said nothing to scan.

Are you using the main database along with your location and range? Or a Favorites list programmed for that county?

If a Favorites list, can you attach your programming file to a post?

If the list is in Sentinel, export it into an *.hpe file. That option is on the drop-down File menu. Be sure to select the list as well as systems on that list.

Note where you saved the exported (*.hpe) file. You'll need to zip it before you can attach it to a post. Right click on the exported file, and select 'Compress to.." in order to create the zipped file.

Looking at the county in the database, it appears that most of their activity is still on conventional channels, though the database says that the county agencies have 'limited use' on SAFE-T.

The trunked system supports the following. Have not checked the conventional (if they still are active on previous systems).

I see no encryption, that’s. Good thing anyway. I suggest you Search for TG’s. You might glean additional TG’s for the 108xx Kosciusko County because a quick check of the TG’s show no pattern of assignment other than as a need arose the next in line numerically was assigned? Like I say, I may be wrong. In Ct. the statewide state owned P25 P2 trunked system, Connecticut Land Mobile Radio Net (CLMRN), assign the TG ID’s using the town’s tax code number alphabetically, such start with #1. The next town is #2, and it continues until you run out of towns/cities. We don’t use counties. In order to get a 3 digit number the system needs to see we add 100 to whatever the town tax code is. Avon, Ct. Is the fourth town listed so we add 100 to 4 and get 104. Then we tack on two more digits for the town’s various depts. Police are 11 thru 20. Fire is 21 thru 30. Police dispatch is 10411, Fire dispatch is 10421. The amount of TG’s blocks of ten are assigned as needed.

Welcome to the RR forums, a couple of questions for you:
  • Are the service types pertaining to the talkgroups you want to hear enabled? (Reference "tag" column in the RRDB).
  • Did you assign a quick key for Kosciusko County at the department level & if so is it enabled?
  • Do said "surrounding counties" you ARE able to pick up also operate on SAFE-T?

Ron10716, I believe "K" county has their own separate sytem, not Safe-T. From the database select Indiana/County systems/K county govt. That's where I heard traffic last year when I was at Beaver Dam Lake

Yep found and added that as an only favorite to rule out everything else. Can't get them to scan - have to manually knob to each one??

I see where they have their own TRS as well as conventional frequencies. On top of that, they are allocated talkgroups on the state system.

I'd suggest tagging this and ask for it to be placed in the Indiana page. That way, more local/knowledgeable folks can chime in, particularly the feed provider.

It sounds like monitor/download is not turned on in your profile. Easy to overlook when adding favorites. You have to manually turn them on. Also, the sds series scanners are very fast scanning entries. If that's the only Favorite List on your radio, you're unlikely to watch/see the scanner fly through the system. Squelch setting should be 2.

I still need some scanner rookie advice. Apparently gone are the days of plugging a frequency into a bank. All I am trying to do is scan my local fire and Ems which no longer works on my old scanner. So I bought the sds200. I have found and created a favorite for Kosciusko County/Kosciusko Government. this includes talk groups and several frequencies under the header "site". I verified with someone associated with the local fire department that these are the correct talk groups and frequencies. I have written to scanner, monitor and download are turned. Scanner says ID scanning and just stays on that and picks up nothing. I know there is activity because I have the scanner app on my phone running. This seems ridiculously complicated for no more than I want to do. About ready to return scanner and subscribe to Broadcastify and set up a old iPad where the scanner sits. Any advice before I return is appreciated.

Squelch setting is important also. Set to 2. Make sure attenuator is off. I know what you're going through, been there myself. Don't give up yet. We need someone from Kos County to chime in. Maybe need to make another posting/plea on the Indiana page with K county in the header. Gotta be someone from Plymouth, Warsaw, Ft Wane or Columbia City that can help

Ron10716, did you include Site 1 along with County fire and EMS? If not, you'll need that. That has the control channel frequencies. Just throwing a suggestion out there.
