I'm new here so please forgive me if these q's have been answered already. Any info or links would be much appreciated.

scanner: RS Pro 96

I've tried putting Motorola type II talkgroup ID's that I don't want to hear into a sub-bank and turning the sub-bank Off but those ID's are still received in Open Mode. It works correctly when the bank is Closed. The bank and all ID's are in Mot mode. Am I missing another step here?

Also, I hear conversations that I know are NOT my local PD (like cabbies) but they still display a talkgroup ID that is in my ID list and known to be police. Is there any way to stop this "bleed through"? Is this a known issue with the Pro 96? I think this only happens when the bank is Open but I'm not 100% sure.

Thanks in advance!

Read this thread to see if it is the same problem you are experiencing:

The above thread seems related to this issue:
"I hear conversations that I know are NOT my local PD (like cabbies) but they still display a talkgroup ID that is in my ID list and known to be police."

BUT, I don't think it's quite the same as the other issue I have:
"I've tried putting Motorola type II talkgroup ID's that I don't want to hear into a sub-bank and turning the sub-bank Off but those ID's are still received in Open Mode. It works correctly when the bank is Closed."

The bottom line: Sub-bank On/Off status only works when the main scanner bank is Closed. The only way I can lock out ID's is to lock them individually. Simply turning the Sub-bank Off doesn't work.

The Pro 96 manual is a little vague about this but it never states that the main bank has to be Closed in order for the Sub-bank status to work. Has anyone else had this happen? I'll do some more searching.

Here's the system in which this occurs: http://www.radioreference.com/modules.php?name=RR&sid=1019

Whle this is a confusing issue, and I'm easily confusied, I've found that you HAVE to close
the bank to elimate the talk-groups you don't want. If a talk-group is programed-in you can get it in any "open" bank.
Found this to be especially true with original factory settings. Problem has cleared-up since programming the whole thing with Win96.(I used to have a few SAPD that showed up though they were really Williamson Co PD! HUH? Identical freqs and talk-group #'s explained it though I do occionally hear SAPD or SAEMS or SAFD when conditions are just right.

This works well here for Austin Travis County TX Apco 25 system. I'm not really clear on the Motorola Type II as it; not active here- thus no real-time experience with it.

Hope this is some help,
-Jon

VintageJon: Thanks for the feedback. At least I'm not the only one who's had this issue.

I had a thread like this about a year ago, I can't remember all the ins-and-outs of the replys, but, you might wanna search for "bleedover" or "bleed over"

Correct. When one is in the `Open' mode the sub-bank *has* to be on *and* the unwanted TG IDs *have* to be *individually* locked out to have them skipped. It's been this way since the PRO-92/2067. When one turns off a sub-bank the scanner ignores it completely in the `Open' mode basically just like you hadn't even programmed anything in. (I have also noticed that if one is having the "Binary Logic Error" problem that this also appears to do the same thing. If you can get the radio to not allow a TG `hijack' by programming in the `hijacking' TG and the locking it out you cannot put that ID into a seperate sub-bank and then just turn off that sub-bank. It *has* to be in the same, afflicted, sub-bank as the TG ID one is having problems with and locked out. [*This* doesn't always work but, I have found that it seems to work often enough to at least try do. At the worst all one has to do is take it out and just put up with the TG `hijacking'. In *this* case every radio behaves differently. I've got 4 PRO-2096s and 3 of them it will work on with some TGs and with other TGs it'll work with a different 1,2, or 3!? It's the `cross' we have to bear for having a, basically, 1st Gen digital trunking radio. Uniden owners, despite all their `huff-n-puff' *also have their own `cross(s)', too. If it is made by man and the `bean counters' have been involved *anywhere* along the way there will always be something that doesn't work quite right. You have to pick and choose just what you are willing to put up with and then do so. {WAN GRIN!}])

Just an `olde Fart's' 2¢ worth. {SNORT!}
