• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Anybody else have this problem? I can't believe it's just my radio, but I also can't believe that something as obvious as transmitting on GMRS repeaters in GMRS mode wouldn't have been caught by someone else sooner.

0- My radios running the latest firmware: 1.23.
1- Put the radio into GMRS mode [PTT + 2 + Power on]. Radio says "GMRS" and reboots.
2- All the memories have been replaced with the 22 simplex GMRS channels. They all seem to work fine.
3- Go to memory 15 [which by the regs is also available as a repeater], or using the CPS....
4- Change the offset to + and 5.000 Mhz. I.e., it should be receiving on 462.550 and transmitting on 467.550.
5- Key the PTT. Mine bonks instead of transmitting. It transmits on all simplex channels just fine.

Should I return this one? Multiple reflashes, reprogramming, resets, etc., to no avail.

I am surprised you have to do anything special to put it into GMRS mode. The US versions only transmit on GMRS. It is supposed to be 30 channels. I would not expect that it would be permitted to adjust the offset to anything outside GMRS +5.

As shipped, my radio was already in GMRS mode, so I didn't have to do anything special to it. I was only noting that if your radio is in Extended mode, in order to reproduce what I'm seeing, you'll have to put it back into GMRS mode. The whole point of the question is that in GMRS mode, I cannot get the radio to transmit on the input of GMRS repeaters.

So I'm not sure what your last sentence means. I described programming in a GMRS repeater channel 462.550 +5.000 MHz either from the faceplate or through the CPS; that isn't "outside GMRS +5".

Thanks! How did I miss that?!?

I also emailed their service department to no avail. It's obvious a [horrible!] bug. In GMRS mode, it's really just an FRS radio at this point, since I can't use channels 23-30 [i.e., repeaters on channels 15-22]. Good grief...

I will never get this radio with 3.5 miles of a spectrum analyzer....
