The Tulsa Amateur Radio Club holds their annual Field Day this weekend at Chandler Park, West 21st Street and 65th West Avenue.

Any hams or anyone interested in learning more about, or trying their hand at, amatuer radio are welcome to come by and check it out. Field Day is a nation-wide emergency communications exercise - each participant (individual or group) sets up under field conditions (radios run off generator, battery or solar power), use temporary antennas, and then try to establish communications to as many parts of the country as possible over a 24 hour period.

Field Day runs from 1pm Saturday, June 24th to 1pm Sunday, June 25th.

This event is primarily an HF thing - the idea is to see if we can contact all parts of the country from field conditions, and beyond that, how many (making it seem like a contest). Because of crowded conditions, it's hard to say where any particular station will be at any time. That's the advantage of ham radio - we have whole BANDS and aren't locked in to single channels. But here's the ranges:

2m USB between 144.1 to 144.3 + FM simplex above 144.9 to 148.0
6m USB between 50.1 and 51.0 and FM from 51.1 to 54
10m USB between 28.3 and 29.0 and FM from 29.0 to 29.7
15m USB between 21.2 to 21.45
20m USB between 14.15 and 14.35
40m LSB between 7.15 and 7.3
80m LSB between 3.75 and 4
160m LSB between 1.8 and 2.0, but typically towards the top.

And if you have digital sound card interfaces and appropriate software -
PSK31 on 7.070, 14.070, 21.170 and 28.170 with RTTY just above those

And of course CW (Morse code) on the lower end of every band - the "bottoms" of the bands are
