Uniden SDS100 or SDS 200 or some other form of SDR dongle with software such as sdrtrunk.

I actually do have sdr-rtl and sdrtrunk and have had no luck getting the Brazoria Simul site, sync errors, but I haven't had it on a laptop to test signal in other areas etc.

Seems to be better but need another dongle now.

I wonder how much sending it in to whistler for the upgrade will help

While the upgrade is worth it for the DMR capabilities, it won’t help with simulcast.

You must be in the Manvel dead zone area.

Since Iowa Colony uses the Brazoria Simulcast, it's safe to

Any objections to this?
Directional Yagi Antenna Outdoor with SMA-Female Connector 7dBi 4G LTE Wideband 698-894Mhz Outdoor Antenna Universal for Cellphone Signal Booster/Cellular Repeater https://a.co/d/90miOFc

I once built a yagi off of k7mems calculator. Worked surprisingly well to reach the fort bend site. No idea where that antenna is now, but it helped. Can't recall trying the Brazoria site

What I've been testing with this time around is a TV antenna that has similar specs to the 772mhz yagi specs, with some elements I removedb and adjusted for conformity (hey gotta try anything). It isn't a proper yagi though and I shouldn't call it that.

So, I can't confidentially confirm yet that a yagi won't help. So now I'm looking

While an effective & properly aimed yagi (or other directional antennas) can help to 'solve' simulcast issues with a specific site, the downside is that you may be limiting your reception to only stations on that site, or in that general direction.

If the site is extremely busy, then yes you'd need 3. You might be able to get by with only 2 but you'd risk missing traffic.

So, if a site has 771.0 through 772.0, CONTROLS and non-controls, a single rtl-sdr would be sufficient?

Reason I ask if I often see people dedicate a dongle just to monitor a CC. If a single dongle covers an entire sites range, is there a need/benefit to having two dongles still?

I personally don't mind if I miss a call because two people are talking at the same time on the same site.

You've been a great help.

If all frequencies are within about 2.4 MHz then only one dongle is required...or within 10 MHz if using an AirSpy R2 or 6 MHZ on an AirSpy. Mini.

Another issue is, you may occasionally hear traffic from them on the channel, but a majority of the time they are dispatched by BCSO on BCSO Disp 1. IC was experimenting with their own dispatch for a little while, but I havent heard where they've gone with it. But as of yesterday, theyre still dispatched by the SO

They are in the process of going to full time in house dispatching along with building a new city hall and police station. I am not sure how its being done now but I know back in October they would have a dispatcher in the office during the day (9-5) and then at night go back to county dispatching them. Their plan is to have around the clock dispatching eventually IIRC.

I got to ask, how did you discover this?

Any chance they'll go to RFSS 3?

Currently, they have a dispatcher M-F 8a-5p. Nights, weekends, and holidays they are still dispatched by BCSO. They have openings for dispatchers to complete the staff for 24x7 in-house dispatching.

As far as going to the City of Houston (RFSS 3), since Brazoria County is building a new tower in Manvel, that should clear up any issues with dead zones and such, so no need to move to CoH.

How do you find out about any of this? I'm curious about the new manvel site too

I wonder if Manvel is going to stay on CoH or move to Brazoira.

It would be nice if they moved back to Harris County so other agencies in the county could scan them without switching systems.

On the flip side there isn’t much incentive to switch back and depending on who programs their radios, could be an expensive switch.
