Hello everyone! I was wondering if there's any "next gen scanner" in development, specifically multi tuner / VFO?
Will there ever be a handheld scanner solution for PC based SDR software like SDRTrunk that feature multiple tuners / VFO's? A great example is scanning a trunked 700/800MHz P25 public safety where there are often numerous simultaneous transmissions across 2 bands.
I know that current handheld scanners like the SDS100/150 have a wide bandwidth that could possibly be used for multiple VFOs via improved firmware, but as far as im aware, they dont have the memory capacity for such tasks, or even possibly processing power.
I've seen some that use a raspberry pi in a tiny case, but Im looking for true handheld. I mean its just two (probably 3) rtl-sdr tuners with a gig or two of memory, but yet we are still using a scanner thats almost 10 years old. I know the scanner manufactures have a smallish customer base, but Ive seen start ups like the KrakenSDR or HackRF that exceeded the funding necessary for such a project.
Where's the "Bearcat Bomber".... I'm ready!
