Thinking about Ham

I was "older" (late 40's) when I decided, just out of the blue, to finally get my ham license.

I was 45 when I tested for Technician.

55 when I upgraded to General

We used the Tech testing manual for a summer project for my 15 yr old son. The wife was helping the son study----and learned enough to also tests..................the 3 of us have sequential calls KCØLGB, KCØLGC, KCØLGD.

My wife was also 45 ---- really had no desire to be a ham, but has participated in Field days and we will soon renew our licenses.

Go ahead and do it? I'm 40 and my son is 13, both just got our Tech licenses. I got 35/35 and he got 34/35. If I can do it, most people can. ;-)

I passed and got my tech license about an hour ago. Thanks to DannB I was golden studying the QRZ.COM QRZ Ham Radio Practice Tests. All 100, Repeats after 11. You all got my lazy *** up to do it. Also thanks to pjtnascar for hooking me up to this Chinese TYT TH-UVF1 that I hope to get working properly soon. Before I start breaking in 10-4. Ron

And the 'fun' has just started. Now you get to decide what you want to do, all those difference modes and frequencies/bands to do it on, and figuring out where to put stuff (humongus antennas!), keeping the 'better half' contented, etc, etc. Oh yeah, and up-grading that license to be able to do all that stuff! Ain't it just terrible?

And don't say break either, unless its an emergency. Just say your callsign or your callsign with listening or monitoring, and talk like you would on the telephone to someone.
