I'd love to hear any tips or things that aren't usually posted here that you have found (even the little things).

I'll start...When you are programming with FreeScan, you can change the start-up screen to anything you want. I programmed my name and phone number to show up on the splash screen, good for if it ever gets stolen I can easily prove that it is mine and a number to call.

In FreeScan, go to Scanner->Set up Scanner Options->General tab.

Here's my tip, similar to the above:

Take a picture of the display of the HomePatrol serial number and email it to yourself as proof of ownership in case it gets stolen and someone changed the user name at the title.

This has saved my BCD396XT Scanner a dozen times. I use the carry strap a lot, and having it looped over your wrist is not as safe as it seams. So, I went to the Sporting Goods store and bought a Spring loaded Tie Clamp (used to hold strings on duffel bags etc. ) so that i can sinch the loop tighter on my wrist and there is now no way it can just slide off.
