• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

Was given a tk-290. I think I got the right battery knb-22n. The charger I got us a ksc-24. The battery does not seem to fit the charger. There are like 2 wings on battery to prevent it from going in

Charger is right.

The battery should work in the charger, but some aftermarket batteries have extra projections not on the original ones.

Some of my TK5210/TK5310 and TK3180 batteries slightly shaped different, but still work OK.

If you can't get the battery in charger would return it.

Also good to purchase at least two batteries that way one can be charging when the other is in use. By rotating them out in use the will last longer.

The ones I purchased for my TK290/390s in May of this year are out of stock. Purchased from iMax battery on Ebay and they work great.

Curious about your success using old CPS on new pc and operating systems? Last time I tried to program a TK290 no joy. I didn’t bang away at it since it wasn’t that important and could do fpp.

KPG38 and all my other Kenwood software works fine on WIN10. Just did a few updates to TK290s and TK390s a few weeks ago.

Have tried most on WIN11 and the all work, but haven't tried KPG38 on this system.

Kind have stay with WIN10 for now, since my older cable won't work in WIN11, but works fine on all TK290/390 and TK5210/TK5310 in WiN10.

As long as it's working I am too cheap to purchase a new cable just to use WiN11.

Computer used to to program in WIN10 is kind of basic, but works great for what I am doing, plus it's a smaller computer so easy to take on my delivery over night work trips.

If I can find them would you like a couple more TK290's and maybe a TK390? No charge if you actually plan to use them!

I am not in need for any more of these radios. Already have way too may handheld radios. I am also way past these radios and now onto newer Kenwood radios that do P25 and maybe other digital modes.

I got them many years ago. The TK390s do work well for GMRS. One of my TK390 I have the speaker mic on and the other doesn't. Sometimes it's better to carry the one without the speaker mic.
