• To anyone looking to acquire commercial radio programming software:

Please do not make requests for copies of radio programming software which is sold (or was sold) by the manufacturer for any monetary value. All requests will be deleted and a forum infraction issued. Making a request such as this is attempting to engage in software piracy and this forum cannot be involved or associated with this activity. The same goes for any private transaction via Private Message. Even if you attempt to engage in this activity in PM's we will still enforce the forum rules. Your PM's are not private and the administration has the right to read them if there's a hint to criminal activity.

If you are having trouble legally obtaining software please state so. We do not want any hurt feelings when your vague post is mistaken for a free request. It is YOUR responsibility to properly word your request.

To obtain Motorola software see the Sticky in the Motorola forum.

The various other vendors often permit their dealers to sell the software online (i.e., Kenwood). Please use Google or some other search engine to find a dealer that sells the software. Typically each series or individual radio requires its own software package. Often the Kenwood software is less than $100 so don't be a cheapskate; just purchase it.

For M/A Com/Harris/GE, etc: there are two software packages that program all current and past radios. One package is for conventional programming and the other for trunked programming. The trunked package is in upwards of $2,500. The conventional package is more reasonable though is still several hundred dollars. The benefit is you do not need multiple versions for each radio (unlike Motorola).

This is a large and very visible forum. We cannot jeopardize the ability to provide the RadioReference services by allowing this activity to occur. Please respect this.

WIll the Kenwood Tk-5210 do MDC-1200 straight out of the box or do you have to do firmware upgrade to get it to work correctly

Depends on how old it is.
Originally when they came out, they would not do MDC1200 since there was still a patent on it.
When the patent expired, the radios started coming with firmware that did support it from the factory.

Version 1 radios won't support MDC. Version 2 may require a bump in the firmware depending on what it currently has, Version 3 radios should support MDC out of the box.

You can load keys using a KVL or you can use the KPG-113AE or KPG-114DE software.

KPG-113AE supports KWD-AE21, KWD-DE20 and KWDDE21.
KPG-114DE is only capable of KWD-DE21.
Also, a USB Secure Key is required for use with KPG-113AE.

You can't program encryption keys with KPG-95.

You'll need the radio.
You'll need the encryption module "SCM" Secure Cryptographic Module, there are two versions:
KWD-AE30K is the AES FIPS-140-2 and DES encryption module.
KWD-AE31K AES & DES module.

And correction to what I wrote above..
The Key programming sofware is:
KPG-AE1K AES/DES key loader
KPG-DE1K DES key loader

To use a Motorola KVL-3000, KVL-3000+ or KVL-4000, you'll need the KPG-93 adapter cable. It connects between the KVL and the portable radio.

Dealers get the firmware for free from Kenwood.

What they do after that is up to them. Some will charge for loading it. Some will not give it out. Depends on your relationship with the dealer.
