Cuslett 772.05625, NAC 682, SID 0687h-0322

I also copied a mystery site that is not in the TAFL.
Signal was strongest at 47° 05' 24.36"N / 53° 28' 37.92"W

??? 772.11875, NAC 687, SID 0687h-0327

I have copied testing on TG 23111.

More to follow.

Branch is in the TAFL with that frequency. Location is 46.87888889,-53.98805556 - I'll let you decide if that would be monitorable from the point you describe above. From what I recall of trips through that area, it wouldn't be a stretch to grab that signal from that point with a good antenna.

I have made a Google Map of the data in this thread cross-referenced with the available TAFL data. See here: click

Including Branch, there are ten sites in TAFL not yet confirmed by posts in this thread.

Back when I was on the island and figuring out the old P25 system so many years ago, one thing I found extremely invaluable was knowing the neighbor sites each site was announcing. For example, if this unknown site 27 is broadcasting neighbors of 22, 26, and 15, you can be just about certain you're looking at Branch, because all those sites are the closest ones to it. Also, if 022 Cuslett and 007 Chapel Arm have a common neighbor being broadcast, I'd wander to Freshwater and see if that site ID doesn't belong there.

Hi all, just looking for a bit of information in regards to the new system in Newfoundland. From what I gather as the new system gets installed in Newfoundland, they will have the same interoperability talk groups as does the rest of the network such as (Common 1, Common 2)?

Thank you in advance.

That is the theory, yes. Although I'm not sure where there would ever be an instance where we would need interop with NFLD. To my understanding, and it depends how they set it up, it will essentially allow seamless roaming between the 4 Atlantic Provinces. I'm sure the RCMP and other federal counterparts will have some interoperability but who knows how in-depth.

Okay thank you for the reply, I was listening to Exercise Handshake this evening and was just curious if they maybe able to or in the near future.

Thanks again!

Hey brownjv14,

I have heard HALIFAX JRCC come through the Kenmount hill site here in St. John's NL. If I hear any more out of province traffic I'll be certain to post it here.

Bell has been testing these talk groups recently.
23111
23108

25514 - Encrypted no talker alias
48643 - RCMP confirmed with talker alias.

We have a couple folks running SDRTrunk instances and feeding the data to a server here in Halifax so we can capture the talkgroups/alias's as they become available.

48xxx are PEI talkgroups. That particular one does belong to RCMP.

I currently have 2 sites in the database that were reported broadcasting as SID 0687h-0315, New Chelsea and Saint Joseph's.

If someone in those areas can identify which is actually site #15 and what number the other site is, that would be helpful.

Hi All,

I have a Uniden SDS 100 but have been away from the scanner hobby for a while now. I have extracted some information from the database to check out the new system the police have began using here in Newfoundland.

I'm getting a frequent TG:25514 from the Quidi Vidi site, so I assume this might be the RNC. Just checking in to see if any listeners are hearing voice on any of the new system or has all of the police in NL now moved on to an encrypted key with the new P25 system?

I have yet to hear any voice from any sites, but have seen a few TG appear while using ID Searching.

Hey,

Since 25514 came on to the system and the RCMP have switched over, the new P25 system has been quiet. The only thing I have copied lately is 25514, which is encrypted via AES256. I have copied plenty of testing traffic in the past, as well as JRCC HALIFAX via the kenmount site. This leads me to believe that there may/will be more voice comms on the system in the future. From what i know as of now, there is only RNC/RCMP on this system. When more agencies and departments start using it, there should be more to listen too.

@Deziel0495
The Bell radio technicians seem to keep changing a few things back and forth here. I will try to reconfirm those two site numbers when I get a chance and will update all of any changes via this thread and a data submission...

Just to mention a very recent discussion with a RNC friend indicated their comms are P25P1 and fully encrypted. This past few days I've noticed RCMP will occasionally use the old EDACS system. My assumption is that the sites located in New Chelsea, Hearts Content and Whiteway, TB are not fully functional yet as comms were particular to these regions.

My weekly trips through Hearts Content indicate this particular site is very busy with different comms trucks frequenting this area. I have a hunch site #15 may be one of the aforementioned sites.

Article: Provincial Radio Communications Office - Justice and Public Safety

When is it expected to be operational?
As of March 2023, the network is operational on the Avalon Peninsula. Members of the RCMP and RNC in the region are migrating over to the new system and will be using the new system as of April 11. Eastern Health ambulance services will be moving to the new network in the coming months followed by other Avalon Peninsula users. The remaining users across the Province will begin to transition to the system in the summer of 2024.

Why is it beginning on the Avalon?
This is being done for operational reasons. Infrastructure requirements to support the system were completed on the Avalon Peninsula in March 2023. Infrastructure requirements to support the system across the remainder of Newfoundland and Labrador will be complete be in spring of 2024.

Article: New Province-Wide Radio System Improves Communications for Emergency Responders - News Releases

The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary (RNC) and Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) have begun using the new province-wide radio system on the Avalon Peninsula. This system will improve the way emergency responders and government – such as the RNC, RCMP, firefighters, paramedics and other public service providers – communicate with each other during emergencies.

In the coming months, paramedics and ambulance dispatchers on the Avalon Peninsula will also begin using the system. The Provincial Government is working with Bell to install and support the system across Newfoundland and Labrador. Infrastructure improvements and developments are ongoing, and are expected to be complete in mid-2024 when public safety service providers across the entire province will begin to migrate to the new network.

Appreciate the info. I got it all added to the database. If there are any errors or omissions, please let me know. In addition to posting here, you can also submit directly to the database (incase I don't see it here) using the link below.

While passing through Hearts Content NL today I paused below the new tower near there and Close Call captured 770.55625, P25p1, NAC 683h.

Soon after I stopped at a friends place and fired up my DSD+ and captured some data.

Some new talkgroups have been added to the database for Newfoundland. Those that live in the area and are able to monitor new sites and talkgroups, it would be much appreciated if you could track and submit updates. Let's make sure Newfoundland TMR is well represented in the database!

Any updates on communications being heard on the new system?
I uploaded the new talk groups from the database on to my SDS 100 but still haven't heard communications. I see the various talk groups being used but don't hear the communications.
I know you mentioned RNC uses AES256 so I wont hear them anyways. Just looking for input as I may have something done wrong on my radio or is the new system confirmed to be encrypted for all police services now?

Police I'm 100% certain will all be encrypted, following suit with all other law enforcement users on the system. EMS has a 50/50 chance, as PEI and NS are encrypted but NB is not. Everything else is a toss up. Best to listen and try to identify what you can hear. You can share your findings here and submit what you have confirmed to the database.

The St. John's Regional fire department in St. John's, Newfoundland, Canada is switching to a province-wide digital radio system and I'm trying to find out their new frequencies and if they will be open or encrypted. Looking for anyone who has knowledge about this switch and how to get the information on their new system.

Thanks
