Anyone hearing chatter about agency interest in the West TN Area?
Slightly interesting map they have going on. Stuff like dynamic regrouping on PTT Talkgroups using GIS/GPS is being created.
Seems apps like Motorola's Intelligent Data Portal are maturing into usable applications, WebRTC seems to be able to handle video really well.

West Tn is too cheap the local Motorola shops are selling TRBO systems plus most Local Governments want their own systems. They also have the I am not going to pay $xxx dollars rent per radio. Local shops hear are fighting the system. Most do not even know what the system is capable of. Like our town 50 Fire Radios and 50 Police Radios and I have only heard rumors the at $100 per radio our city would not spend $10,000.00 a month to be on the system plus buy the radios. For that kind of money they op to keep the local repeater system and use the county smartnet trunking system for free.

Sounds like they need to be informed and a demo! I agree they're not going to pay a lot for service I hear that TACN is like 20/mo per unit. The LEX L10 is close to the price of TRBO the feature set blows TRBO and NXDN away in they citys with good LTE coverage. The citys need to look at cost or ownership of their systems, Im sure its adding up considering I see radio guys running aroud constantly and doing radio checks constantly. I'm not saying in public safety replace radios completely but it would be a hell of a companion device or primary device.

When is your upgrade to P25? Since Smart Net and Smart Zone is discontinued by Motorola, will you go the smart route and P25, possibly even TACN, or get conned into TRBO?

As for FirstNET in TN.... You won't be seeing wide use till well after 2020 or later. The network doesn't exist wide enough in that State to support 4G LTE in Podunkville out in the Boonies and mountains,

We are using a smartzone system and we have 3 spare controllers and 3 7 channel racks spare. Heck a little over 4 years ago we were using a startsite. On the system now We have over 30 mtx8250's my department has all E F Johnson 51SL's and 53SL's all 700 800 units all SO and PD units are non P25 radios everything but us were all used and they thought that was high. I have my eye on another 2 site smartnet. They cringed when I showed them this

I got to play with an LEX last fall. You still need an APX to talk over the P25 system. You can do ROIP but then you need that equipment, Wave, Beon, etc.

I actually see FirstNet helping the rural areas get LTE service sooner. The urban areas have LTE carrier coverage that would be cost prohibitive to duplicate on FirstNet.

And then there is the cost. Memphis has a Verizon contract for unlimited everything for $50 a month. FirstNet would need to beat that.

Figure memphis would get better prices than that! Haven't got my hands on a LEX yet, I have wrote my own droid software for RoIP, GPS, Video Broadcast and works with a GIS map server also! Not google maps! I am even able to regroup users into talkgroups by unit, number or geolocation which will be done shortly. Not sure what to add on next maybe mandown!
