All I can say is "wow"! Todays event had it all except snow. I honestly haven't seen non-thunderstorm winds like that in well over 10 years. It seemed like the whole state was going to go up in flames. I haven't ever heard the all the area FDs in Tulsa County that busy ever! What a day! Anyone have any stories they want to share about today's wind/storm/tornado event?

We at Morgans Corner had a BUNCH of little fires, but nothing really major:

My fire department borders the west side of Skiatook; We had to mutual aid several fire calls in their district because they were all helping in Sperry. Later in the day, we ended up west of Hominy helping out there, and we could still see the glow coming from Sperry. It was the largest wildfire in the Skiatook area in a long time; Channel 6 was saying this morning on the news that it burned aprox. 800 acres and 4 families lost their homes... including a Sperry firefighter. thats reallly sad.

I know for awhile every single piece of Tulsa equipment was on a call and I haven't heard that it a long time. Just hearing the units being dispatched to calls was very interesting. Sand Springs was asking Tulsa Fire for assist and Tulsa said sorry we have no units in service.

Not exactly true. They said they didn't have any grass rigs available. That's because they only have, 3 or 4 for the entire city. There isn't that much of a need for a grass rig in an urban interface. There were plently of structure trucks available.

actually i think the request was for two engines and two squads originally from tulsa fd...from sand springs to stage to protect homes and allow backfires to remove vegetations prior to the wave of fire. tulsa fd did say not to both accounts.

re

Our fire department was going crazy, down here in Norman. and It blew off some stuff from my home and I was fixing it the next day...that was more of a summer time wind. back in the 80's I remember one december it got really cold and then the north gate opened up and it was down in the -30's wind chill.
