I'm looking to download some tones that police/sheriff departments use on the radio. For example, the one I'm looking for is when the ISP puts out a DUI on ISPERN, or when someone has a traffic stop and someone comes back with a warrant.

Any ideas on where I can download this? I'm wanting to make this my text ringer on my phone.

If you know what frequencies the tones are at, you can grab a software tone generator and create them manually.

You can record them off the air using ScannerRecorder, then save them as .wav files.

According to the CARMA database the ISP uses 2440 Hz., followed by 2840 Hz. for Situation Alerts, but that is changing with the new consoles as StarCom21 comes online.

Based on Rich's post, here's something I created....I have no idea about the frequency durations as I've never heard the tone, but if you have a wave editor, you can adjust it accordingly.

PS: don't play this on headphones at full volume!!! (@ -3dBFS)

Thanks for the ideas guys. I'm gonna try the scanner recorder.

And thanks for making the tone, but it wasn't what I'm looking for. If you live in Illinois, ISPERN is on 155.475.

Yeah I'm in Chicago..I get ISPERN through the EDACS system (thought all VHF frequencies were abandoned for EDACS & StarCom...)

ISP around here is still on low band and high band... for now.

There are many departments around here that can't even afford to get a new radio system, let alone use Starcom.

Were you ever able to isolate the ISPERN tone and identify the frequency? I tried wintone to identify the hz, but had no success.

Are you looking for the following???

The Weather Alert tone on 42.5000 is 2440.0 Hz and 1780.0 Hz.

The Situation Alert on ISPERN is 2440.0 Hz and 2840 Hz.

Does anyone know if the BC396/996 Fire Tone works for these???

These alert tones may be changing as Districts switch over to StarCom21 and receive new consoles.

One thing I and others have noted is that some ISP districts are transmitting 67.0 Hz. PL tones on ISPERN bases. I am presuming this is to allow StarCom21 Patch receivers to only retransmit ISP posts instead of all the traffic it hears on 155.475.

Rich

Have noticed the PL 67.0 on ISP District 12, ISP District 19, ISP District 13, and ISP District 22 ISPERN.

I bought an audio cable with two male ends, plugged one into the external jack on the scanner, the other into the microphone port on my computer. I left my scanner locked on ISPERN all night, and managed to record the tone with a scanner recorder. Ironically, I believe that it was a district 16 broadcast I took it from (I live in district 8).

Thanks for all your help, guys.
