My neighbor had a TV tower for sale in his yard for sale for 30 Bucks. I stopped to see how it was and it was in good condition. He has had to move it to mow and offered it to me for 15 bucks. After bringing it home and laying it out from the base to the top its around 80 ft. Im going to start off repainting the tower and trying to lay my plan s out ahead of time as to location, brackets and the like. Any tips and or suggestions would be great fully appreciated. Thanks in Advance Hoser

Holy smokes! That sounds like a great deal to me. I don't have any suggestions since I just have a Radio Shack 20-176, but I'd like to see some pics when you get it up.

I'm sort of in the same boat. I got a 60' crank-up tower for free. It was on a building for years that was going to be torn down for redevelopement. I check with the owner about taking it down for him. I just signed a waiver in case I got hurt and my brother-in-law helped me take it down in 2 hours. I'm going to do the same as you in planning out how and where to place the different antennas on the tower. Don't mean to hijack thread, but maybe the info will help you also. Has anyone mounted their Satellite dish antenna (Dish Network) on their antenna. I'm moving about an hour north of Seattle and most likely will be on a treed lot. I'm thinking I'll need the elevation on the dish.

I have one 40' tower now, but may be getting a 50' crankup I just came across. The guy I am getting it from paid $1200 and never put it up. So that should handle my 2m dual beam plus a couple small scanner antennas

With my current chimney mast setup im dead level with some power lines to the West. It must interfere there I get out every other direction 30+ miles. however I can pick up there traffic from the West with a Diamond 77. Even when I take my scanner up it loses the signal. Im on a hill by a lake thats 3mi X10miles long and have a lot of large tree's around. so I should be in the wide open as far as their traffic all of the time?? With 3 teenagers around gotta have something to mess with...........Hoser

Hey hoser!

You're gonna need a base for that thing. Find out who made it if you can and see if you can get a new base. Has to go in concrete. If you can't find it, maybe a local metal shop can fab it up for you. Most of all, be careful! Ya gotta have a good base section for the thing to stay up!

And yeah, get that ham license. Wish I had room for an 80' tower :(

Already had the base for the tower in mind. The local Voc. school does a lot of my welding projects for the cost of the materials. They get alot of fix-it stuff and like too see heavier projects come in. I usually make em smile when they see my truck and trailer comin in lol. Keep the Good Info comin in guys. Your simply the BEST...........Hoser
