from CP24 someone was saying that some cars (I would assume tankers) had sulpheric acid and fuel, but dont see any tankers in your picks. Do you remember seeing tankers ?

Great pics ! I know trains can be a kilometre or more in length, any idea how far back from the locomotives the derailment happened ?

I didn't see any tankers derailed, I think they were still on the tracks. I was monitoring Pickering Fire when it happened and they confirmed early that no acid was leaking but there was some diesel. The derailed cars in the pics are the only ones off the tracks although there is a string of cars leaning quite badly. I'll check the rest of my pics for more shots, sorry my camera isn't the best. I live about a mile from the site so decided to go over and check it out.

The derailment was in the front half of the train, maybe 10-20 cars from the engines. It was a long train, the engines are around Westney and it stretches West past Brock Rd.

If you can, try and get some shots of the clean-up crew when they have to pick up the containers. Where I work, the track is about 30 ft from our fence line. We often see some weird looking equipment riding the rails, like the track grinder with huge sparks flying out from the sides.

Send your pics to CP24, you might win a new camera !!!

EDIT: In pic 3, the red one looks like a Canadian Tire can.

Just hear a 1C at YYZ at about 4:15pm, the plane landed safely and was able to taxi while fire crews followed it so they could inspect it.

Maybe I'll go by in the morning. Heavy equipment was being trucked in when I was leaving.
Sent in one of my pics this afternoon.

Hey Path, I love that grinder as well!. The grass fires it causes is wicked. Then there rail tanker comes behind the grinder to put out the fire.
Am I the only one that can't see the pics? I have all X's on Simon's picture post.

"Officials say 32 trains jumped the track close to the Ajax-Pickering border, and the effect was immediate. "

Wow! 32 trains huh? I have the feeling it was a typo... :D

It sounds like a pretty big derailement. Hopefully everything turns out okay.

Hopefully this isn't the first casualty of the CN strike!!

I'd bet more heavily that it's a casualty of CN Rail's horrendous safety record and blatent disregard to employee and public safety.

CP24 did show some viewer pics, but I don't recall hearing your name ! You have to hang around at the scene like a paparazzi stalking a movie star, hoping they get arrested so you can snap that million dollar shot !!!
