I have a 1490 that has worked flawlessly for several years except for broken solder at the coil ends but now I've got a different situation.
The range dropped off almost to the point you can't hear when get less than a mile away. It measures flat as a pancake on my Bird and that's another thing that bothers me
Anyway I did find the usual broken coil solder but I did my due diligence and tested for a DC ground because I thought it had one but I got nothing from the center pin to the outside shell and also nothing from the center pin to the end of the load where the radiator connects. That just don't seem right to me. So can anybody confirm my assumption that there should be continuity from the center pin to the end of the matching section and that there should be 0 ohms or very close to it at the connector end of the antenna? I even went as far as sticking a small drill down the mounting hole on the end of the matching section and it just hits solidly on the plastic coil form so that is why I had second thoughts.
