I have enjoyed monitoring both police and especially Fire/Rescue/Medcom communications since 1968. However, for the past ten years my interests have been diverted and I have not used my scanners. Recently my interest in both amateur radio and scanning was rekindled and to my great disappointment I found, with respect to the "Treasure Coast Regional Communication System", "All law enforcement operations are encrypted and cannot be monitored.". Both my BCD396T and new SDS100 and are silent in Stuart. Even the Martin County Fire-Rescue talkgroups are silent. Can I assume Fire-Rescue is also encrypted or am I missing something as I would not expect encryption on anything other than law enforcement talkgroups.

FR is encrypted as well. Complete Barbra Streisand. As is LE routine dispatch encryption.

Thanks. Not what I wanted to hear but certainly something I can do nothing about. Sure miss the days in the early 70s when I lived in Philadelphia and monitoring the Philadelphia Police/Fire 450 Mhz or so channels was frequently more exciting than anything on TV. Now, in Stuart, my two scanners do very little here other than run down batteries.

N4IFE,
Greetings from N4SYR in Port St. Lucie. I am right there with ya. Growing up in Central New York (Syracuse) I would listen to County fire & Ambulance on VHF Lo-Band, County Sheriffs on VHF Hi-Band and City Police on UHF. Everything down here is Trunked and not nearly as fun as the good ole days. Here are some things I monitor with the older scanners.
* 153.920 MHz - Indian River Co. Fire/Rescue (Rebroadcasts there Dispatch TG)
* Marine Frequencies
* 160.530 MHz - Florida East Coast Railway
* GMRS Repeaters including 462.600 in Hobe Sound & 462.575 in Ft. Pierce which is a linked repeater from around the country
* Of Course Ham Radio mostly SARNET on 444.150 MHz

Thanks. Never monitored anything in Syracuse but spent 4 years there in mid 60s in undergraduate school then was up in Oswego a few years back as a consultant at Nine Mile before retiring. Thanks for the FEC frequency. I assume 160.530 is a simplex frequency and not really expecting much usable signal in the Treasure Coast Mall area but going to try.

For Fire/Rescue: Martin County, you can at least monitor the Station alerting (talkgroups 11001 - 11022). St. Lucie County... ZERO! At least with Martin County you know where units are going. In St. Lucie County, its a big secret now.

Lifeguards: Martin County... ENCRYPTED. St. Lucie County, TG 5341.

When I vacation down here, the only items on the P25 system that I tend to monitor anymore are the Martin County F/R station calls, St. Lucie County lifeguards, and the St. Lucie County Schools Security TG (5513). Otherwise, its pretty boring (unless you want to hear about dogs on the loose and people bit by animals, then you can listen to Animal Control w/o a problem LOL). Below are some analog channels that might be worth putting in there for the Treasure Coast (since there isn't much on the P25 system).

159.4050 (71.9PL) FFS Dist. 16
154.2800 FFS
154.2650 FFS
154.2950 FFS
151.2350 FFS
151.2950 FFS
160.5300 FEC RR dispatcher
160.7700 FEC RR train
154.9500 LE Emergency
460.2750 LE Emergency
164.3000 (NAC293) USCG
156.8000 Marine 16/USCG
157.0500 USCG 21A
157.1000 USCG 22A
157.1500 USCG 23A
157.0750 USCG 81A
157.1250 USCG 82A
157.1750 USCG 83A
155.0025 (179.9PL) Savannas Preserve
158.7375 (107.2PL) RMACS
851.0125 (156.7PL) 8CALL90
851.5125 (156.7PL) 8TAC91
852.0125 (156.7PL) 8TAC92
852.5125 (156.7PL) 8TAC93
853.0125 (156.7PL) 8TAC94
854.6375 (210.7PL) FL M/A

Don't get too excited over those frequencies. But I guess its better than listening to nothing.

164.3000 (NAC293) USCG

Most times that Coast Guard digital traffic is encrypted :-(

Over the coming months the Florida East Coast Railway maintenance-of-way and contractor channels should be a-hopping as they build out the additional infrastructure for BrightLine passenger service to Orlando.

160.65MHz (NBFM) FEC MoW
160.98MHz (NBFM) contractor channel

They will announce approaching trains and order workers to clear up to allow the train to pass, so that can be a good heads-up.

Well the FEC line runs very close to the Treasure Coast Mall. I live off Gatlin Blvd. near Traditions and can pick up some simplex I believe out of Ft. Pierce on the FEC frequency. That’s off of an outside JPole antenna. Have a listen and see what you might get.
