TREDYFFRIN TWP., PA - On Friday, August 27th at 10:29 a.m. the Berwyn Fire Company, Radnor Fire Company, and Valley Forge Volunteer Fire Company were dispatched to the 1400 block of Valley Forge Rd. in Tredyffrin Township for a house fire.

The crew of Berwyn Engine 2-3 arrived to find fire and black smoke coming from the garage area of a single family home. Berwyn Fire Chief Matthew Norris arrived soon after and established an Incident Command Post. Initial fire crews from Berwyn, Radnor, and Valley Forge worked as a team to contain the fire and to prevent it from spreading to the rest of the house.

Based on the need to check for fire extension in the area above the garage a 2nd alarm was dispatched to assist with additional personnel. ᅠFirefighting crews from Chester, Delaware, and Montgomery counties brought the blaze under control at 11:16 a.m.

The Tredyffrin Township Public Works Department responded to the scene with a backhoe to help pull out burnt materials from the garage that firefighters could not safely access. This was done to ensure that any smoldering material could not flare back-up causing additional damage to the home.

The Chester County Fire Marshal's Office is investigating the cause of the fire. According to the Chester County Fire Marshal's Office, damage is estimated at more than $100,000. There were no reported first responder or civilian injuries. Final units cleared the fire scene just after 2:00 p.m.

The following additional companies assisted at the fire scene: Paoli Fire Company, Malvern Fire Company, King of Prussia Volunteer Fire Company, & Lafayette EMS (Upper Merion Twp.). Crews from the Goshen Fire Company, Newtown Square Fire Company and Riddle EMS stood by in Berwyn's firehouse during the incident.

During the beginning of the fire attack, a local trash truck and several cars ran over the fire hose that was connected from the fire hydrant to Berwyn Engine 2-3. The Berwyn Fire Company wants to remind people that if you see fire hose in the street do not run it over.ᅠ Due to the irresponsible actions of some motorists 600' of hose was destroyed and needs to be replaced.
