Is anyone else having any issues receiving? Fire and WSP works but hardly police. Every now and then I might hear something. Does anyone know if I should update the channels? I use uniden 396XT.

Try reloading your scanner's programming. Also, does your 396XT have the latest firmware? If you look under the Settings menu it should show a value 1.11.01

Another possibility: that scanner supports Phase 1 P25 only. Their FCC license and your report suggests that LE could have switched to Phase 2 radios. If the system is now supporting Phase 2 and the radios are configured to use Phase 2 then you would miss that specific traffic. (The system can also support Phase 1 P25 to maintain backward compatibility.) You may be hearing some units who have yet to swap radios..?

Try to narrow down which talkgroups you aren't hearing any more. That will help too.

You can always monitor/compare what you get to here: OpenMHz

I think, as a whole, radio traffic on L/E systems is just plain down. They just don't talk as much as they used to, for one reason or another. I live near Spokane but was actually in the Tri-Cities on Wednesday (12/13) and listened to everything in that area (Benton Co TRS, WSP, Yakima Co, etc., and heard a fair amount of radio traffic, but it is not almost non stop like it used to be way back when. Even here in Spokane, there are days when I think my scanner is broken then suddenly, things perk up and there will be some action. Like "devicelab" said, check OpenMhz, and see if you can compare what is on there to your scanner. You might find, you aren't missing as much as you think, because it just isn't there to begin with. There is also a slight factor of late Fall/Winter vs Spring/Summer!

Thanks. I moved the BCD396XT out to my living room and heard so much more! I just need to figure out how to update firmware and I guess I'll be adding an external antenna this spring.
