Hi all I have been out of the scanning loop for a while but was listening to my PRO-95 after initializing it again and programmed the 2 troops in the radio and discovered that I can hear both B and C talkgroups on the B North system. I have never got reception from the C tropps up here in the North Bergen area but am now. Anybody with details on changes withhin the NJSP Trunk system ??? Would I be able as well to pick up Troop A TG's as well ???

You might not hear activity all the time - it all depends certain factors

EMD,

Boy, you have been gone for a while, haven't you. I hope I can explain this right for you.

Here's the scoop. About a year or so ago (maybe longer?) the SPNJ trunked system was upgraded to a smartzone system. What this means is that so long as a radio is tuned to a particular takgroup ("affiliated," in technical terms), and that talkgroup is recognized as valid statewide, that radio will be recognized regardless of what system that radio is working within (and, therefore, that talkgroup can be active in a system outside of it's home system). The idea behind this feature is so that an end user (a trooper, DoT supervisor, etc.) does not have to tune his or her radio to a specific system (A, B, or C in the case of NJ) first in order to talk.

Therefore, to answer your question, yes, a talkgroup that is usually assigned to the Troop A system can appear on the Troop B system so long as: (a) users of that talkgroup are allowed to roam outside of their home Troop and (b) there is a radio turned on to that talkgroup in Troop B's area (or C in A, or B in A, etc. etc.).

I can hear most troop activities now from troop B on the C system. It seems they simulcast all of these TG's now regardless, I get them all the time now. I guess this is working in reverse for you EMD. They are also consistantly simulcasting troop C TG's on troop A. I Like it.

Do you think I would be able to pick up Troop A here in North Bergen since all this simulcasting is happening now?? Would be great to hear the whole SP system up here in North Jersey ?????? I figure if C is simulcasting on B then A since they simulcast on C I would be able to pick up A as well. Hoping I am right in this surmission. Anyone answer my question please !!!!!!!!!

I would start searching the B system and look for the ID's from troop A. Thats how I discovered all the other simulcasting. If they are simulcasting it shouldn't take long before you hear something.

Ok I programmed the A control freq in of 860.9375 and was getting something completely different than state police transmissions(sounded like and electric co. possibly from NYC on this system).

I don't know where you are at but it sounds like you are out of range of the A system. If you put your scanner in search mode in the troop B system you will hear them if they are simulcasting. If they are not simulcasting you are out of luck for the troop A. You will be hard pressed to hear the troop A system farther north than Mercer or Monmouth counties un less you are hearing a simulcast. Good luck.
