This morning while searching 162-174 I came across two weather stations I have never heard from Lafayette. Right now I am hearing 162.4 which is WX station KHB42 in Lake Charles which is 70 miles west of me. And that is on a BCD396XT handheld sitting on the top shelf of my computer desk with a 7 inch long iCOM dual band ham HT antenna. The other station was 162.475. As I am typing this it is getting clearer. The voice is now loud and strong with little static.

Big storm about to roll through next couple of days. Troop should be great for today at least.

Dudes! This morning there is a band opening like I have never seen. I am receiving all seven national weather service channels with nothing but a 25 inch indoor telescoping antenna. I am receiving the McMullen County, Texas national weather service station on 162.425 with full quieting. That is over 400 miles west of me. Some of the other stations are closer and have static but that one is very clear.

See the tropo ducting map here:

This morning its red all over Louisiana and East Texas.
