Hello,my first time here, ive had scanners since the 1980's,but im not a HAM,and i dont have the knowledge of the right terminology,so please bare with me.
my scanner, the RS Pro-2052 (label on the bottom says 05A04,i believe that code means it means it was made in May of 2004?)
i have a RS model 20-043 outdoor discone antenna mounted on a pole 21feet high ( steel gas pipe),i believe it is grounded, but it may have been disconnected..not sure.there is an adapter on the bottom of the antenna,to connect to a BNC,with a 100ft RG58? cable.which connects to a BNC connector on the rear of my RV,which then runs into my RV ona RG58? cable to the scanner 25FT cable, everything was taken down and cleaned and tightened about two months ago.
whats happening is that the majority of the channels i care to listen to seem to get stuck on a constant squelch.when this happens..the squelch knob is worthless....but on uneffected channels..it works fine ( to set the squelch level) the most effected channels are seemingly local channels..but not all..and they vary,151.325,154.355,151.280,151.385,all fire freq's here..and then 122.700 unicom for auburn airport and others..
the scanner is on my desk about 3 1/2 feet from my wifi router, plus i have dell wireless keyboard and mouse.22inch flat screen monitor, wired speakers for the PC.there is a 7 port USB box on the otherside of the desk..but nothing wireless...
i list all of that incase any of those things may be causing some interference.
im also wanting to get the USB to serial cable and software to use it on the PC,is it to old?..and ive seen alot of talk about firmware..is there and update for this scanner and should i update it if there is?
any and all advice will be taken and tried if affordable (smiles)
Dave
