Ok, Updating this. I got stuck in the CPU firmware update mode.... For some reason I can't do anything via the two programs listed or even get out of this mode. Does anyone have any ideas?

There are archived threads under the GRE sticky. Click on the one that says updates for the 500/600. It will take you to how to do it.
Generally, when that mode shows, you didn't follow the update procedure correctly.

Thanks for the response I will check there. I think I had accidently held the PROG button while turning the unit on which sent it into this CPU Firmware mode. It was a fresh unit out of the box until then. I just need to find away to cancel or back out of this mode due to every time I turn it on it is still in this mode.

In reading that thread it appears uP Boot ver: F1.5 is not listed. Will following those steps have any harm to my scanner?

Odd it seems I can no longer edit my previous posts. I have run into a new problem. I have attempted running the update software as directed in the GRE sticky regarding the 500/600 and it fails every time. Currently my scanner reads uP Boot Ver: F1.5 uP App Ver: NONE CPU SW upgrade Wait for PC/IF.

When I run the software it reads the com port fine and when I hit update it gets no response from the scanner and the scanner screen switches to Error turn off... Getting a bit frustrated now.

As Larry (N8IAA) stated you are not following closely the instructions for updating your scanner. Here is a direct quote from the last GRE instructions for updating firmware issued January 2012 -

"Upgrading your PSR-500 or PSR-600
Upgrading your scanner is a quick, simple and safe process. There is no way you can
render your scanner inoperable by performing the upgrade."

You need to read every word in the instructions such as correct port being used; test the connection; use the correct DSP release; update CPU before DSP, etc. etc.

I have read and re-read the instructions. It originally wasn't my intention to preform this update so please forgive me if I come across a little short and lost. I was using the GRE PSR500 CPU Firmware Upgrade Instructions v2.1.pdf to preform this update. According to it i should use the CPUUpdater_PSR-500-600-BootF14_u2.1.exe which I did. When testing on com5 it tells me The scanner currently contains no CPU application code! This update utility contains version 2.1. I click ok then update. Scanner moves to Error- T urn Off and updater states No data from the scanner (2). Please retry from step 4.

I'm not sure whether the GRE PSR500 Firmware Upgrade will work on the WS1065 scanner. If not, you may need to contact Whistler to obtain the firmware specifically made for the WS1065 scanner.

That is what I was starting to fear. I can't believe there isn't a way to cancel out of this option. I had accidently pressed the button while turning the unit on and now it won't do anything but that. I even tried leaving the unit on and unplugged for a few hours just to see if I could reset it's memory.

I am guessing when you tried to upgrade your WS1065 scanner using the PSR500 version 2.1 firmware the existing firmware in the WS1065 scanner was deleted to make room for the new version. Once you obtain the latest CPU firmware from Whistler for the WS1065, I believe it will upload properly and all will be back to normal.

As the WS1065 is also like RadioShack's PRO-197, you might try the PRO-197 firmware upgrade just to see if it will work while you are waiting for tech support to get back in touch with you from Whistler.

The links to download the RadioShack firmware for the PRO-197 are now "forbidden". Go figure...
http://www.radioshack.com/graphics/uc/rsk/Support/SoftwareDownload/2000106_0197_V20.exe
http://www.radioshack.com/graphics/uc/rsk/Support/SoftwareDownload/PRO106_FIRMWARE21.exe

I have copies of the RadioShack firmware upgrades for the PRO-106/197 if you would like to give it a try.
The last version released was CPU firmware version 2.1 dated 6/22/2012 on the RadioShack website made for both the PRO-106 and PRO-197 (nearly identical to the WS1065).

Just send me a private message/e-mail and I will send you the files.

I doubt that even the RadioShack Pro-106/Pro-197 firmware will be able to solve the problem. As someone pointed out when they first shipped, the Whistler scanners are sold with factory CPU 2.6 firmware, likely due to slightly different hardware that are no longer available. This would mean that the only real solution is to obtain the firmware from Whistler directly to solve the issue. If the RadioShack firmware works, then feel free to correct me as I do not have the WS1065.

The confusing part is I hadn't tried to update any firmware till recently after I had encountered the issue. The only the only thing I can come up with is I held down tje PROG button while turming the scanner on and it stuck. Now it won't even allow for an update or anything else. As soon as I turn it on it starts in the CPU update mode. Guess I'll have to contact whistler on monday.

It's possible that a glitch in the memory or a lose connection may have corrupted the CPU firmware. GRE has had issues with memory failing over time in some of their scanners.

When there is no CPU firmware installed or the CPU firmware is corrupted the scanner will boot into update mode which is normal. Most likely you will have to wait for the WS1065 CPU firmware file from Whistler. The file does not appear to be available anywhere online currently.

Thinking outside the box, I wonder if in a situation like this if a person were to use a cloning cable if it would install the firmware from a good WS1065? Probably not...

As others have said, if you used a GRE file to update the CPU you corrupted the Whistler firmware. I suggest you call Whistler on Monday and they probably can e-mail you the correct firmware to reload your scanner.

do a complete wipe out on the scanner reformat /reset it will go back to what was in it when you got the scanner.... so save whatever scanners file you may have.

On page 53 of the WS1065 manual it states that by pressing 0, CLR during the welcome screen will allow the "factory DSP version" to be restored. Note, this is the DSP firmware that can be restored and not the CPU firmware.

Unfortunately, there is nothing in the manual that states any way to restore the factory "CPU" firmware without the firmware file.

However, it would not hurt to try resetting the entire scanner if it allows you to do so. Without the CPU firmware however you will be limited in what you can do. You may not even have the ability to select the option to reset the scanner.

Yea, I saw those reset codes and desperately tried usimg them. I think because I never make it to the Welcome Screen they won't work. Going to talk to whistler on Monday. Thanks for the attempt guys.

Called Whistler and the first guy wasn't able to assist me, said he would have someone call me. Second guy gave me the same ideas I got from this group ( turn on press 0,1 etc.) He then told me he would have to call me back after speaking with a different engineer. Sounds like they might not even have the firmware available due to it being so new and not having any updates as of yet. I find it odd that they don't even have an original version to send me to re-install.
