Nothing Special here, but I like seeing what everyone else is running, so here is what is in a Van I use at my work. These are ceiling mounted between the dome light and bulkhead. Works out well, the BC780XLT has an external M speaker mounted on the bulkhead to the left of and behind the drivers head. Couldn't hear it very well with the down firing speaker.

We have a wide area (very wide - awesome tower site we own) VHF repeater, and we are licensed for talkaround, and 2 itinerant freqs for direct comms. The CDM1250 is programmed for 5 Wx channels too, so our trucks can get Wx from about anywhere in the state they are. My truck is the only one with a scanner (I'm the system admin, and it's mine anyway) I listen to area public safety, some commercial, air, a trunking system in the next county, a large utility trunking system, and I have a HAM bank with the local stuff in it. I use a 1/4 wave on the VHF, and have had the best reception on the 780 with a Moto Spectrum series UHF 5 DB gain....my vhf and 800 works great from it.

do you do a lot of listening on the airband ?

Whats the echo like in the van ?

Really just 2 local small airports unicom, and then 121.500. But we have several heli-pads around, so I listen to choppers switching back and forth from Air to their VHF's talking to traffic and their local base + dispatch (their dispatch is out of state via a IP connected local base station on VHF simplex).

No echo...vans can be noisey, but most of what I carry is in boxes, and large tools are strapped down. I am fairly strategic about that...I can't stand all the rattles and noise. The new van is way better than the old one. I had a 2004 and they had put mud tires on the back at some point....it was in good shape, but you needed something for your headache from the hum of the tires after a long drive.

Hi quarterwave....your truck setup is fine, and if it gives you enjoyment, then it's perfect. Remember, the only person your shack has to please is YOU. Thanks for sharing with us.

Cool. I'd like to see additional, less close-up pictures for perspective if you get time.

Cell phone isn't cooperating with the lighting. But here's one backed off a bit.

I did pretty much an identical install with an MCS-2000 in my work van back when I was in the field. Having the speaker right near me made it easy to hear. The short coaxial run to the antenna didn't hurt a bit, either.
