There is something about trunk broadcasts that I dont understand.

I have been listening to what I think is a Toronto Canada police "trunk" broadcast ... but all that shows on my screen of my GRE PSR800 is:
TGRP 54 D-54
Toronto Police S

But it doesnt show any frequency. Do trunk broaddcasts not show the freq, or am I doing something wrong (which is very possible).

Many thanks

One conversation can actually use several frequencies on a trunking system. The frequency will change if the control channel instructs the radio to do that. So someone might ask a question on one frequency and the answer may be sent over another one. But they are both in the same talk group so they both hear all sides of the conversation.

So long as both radios (or your scanner) knows which frequency to skip to it's no problem, and that's decided by the control channel. The important thing to know is the "talk group", not the frequency. It's the talk group that tells you who you are listening to.

If you just scanned the actual voice transmission frequencies linearly you would quite possibly not hear any one conversation, but little snippets of many.
