Early this a.m. around 7:30 or so, I sat with my jaw dropped as I listened to Plano talking to Dallas on what they were calling intercity. They were testing it, like it might be a new setup. I didn't realize skip could happen on such a high frequency, but I'm learning new things every day! Pretty neat. It's coming through the Abilene system. I've also heard San Angelo or somewhere down that way, giving out weather bulletins. What service that is, I'm not sure, police, emergency or what.

New doors opening on these trunking systems.

Would you happen to know what frequency this was coming up on?

154.280Mhz is know as the fire inter-city channel in the Dallas. Plano doesn't talk to Dallas on an 800Mhz trunk channel, only that VHF channel. Dallas does radio checks with all mutual aid cities on that channel in the morning, usually on Mondays, but it can be anytime.

Ah thanks.. I will check that frequency out. I do have it in my radio but never hear anything on it yet.

It just came up with another talk group number. Uncertain as to the exact 800 frequency.
Must be a 154.28 link of some kind, if that's right. But, the trunking channel is where it came in.

Well Plano here has a 800 Mhz trunk maybe one of the frequencies are the same between the two trunks. But I don't recall there being a tg id on the Plano trunk that is a lnk to the mutual aid VHF frequency unless they where using the EOC tg to patch to that frequency.

TonY: Midland is on an EDACS system, and out here in the country where I live, I've been getting considerable skip on their trunk. I recently heard the EMS at Lake Whitney talking, to give you an idea on how well the skip runs....and that's on my Pro94 sitting inside the house. For some reason I have excellent radio range where I live, as I can hear stuff more than 100 mi. away routinely on my highband radio w/AC adapter with just a magnetic highband antenna inside the house. Don't ask me why...but it really works!

Howdy, Skip! That's something how these 800 trunkers will get that skip. What type antenna do you have? I might try one like it here.

This is one exciting hobbby. Seldom ever dull.

Hope you've been doing good, Skip. The wife's nuclear stress test was good except for something the Dr. said so fast, I couldn't even comprehend what it was. Maybe his nurse can interpret. I think Doctors run on EDACS Provoice about half the time. :D

Hi Tony: Glad to hear that things have turned out o.k. so far for your wife. Hope it stays that way. The antenna is just the plain rubber ducky antenna that came with the radio. When I have it in the house, it sits on top of the piano. But in that one spot, it seems to draw in a lot of skip on Midland's trunk. My pro-2051 picks up some trunking skip, but not much, as I've had problems with the trunk portion of the receiver. If it's cool or cold, the trunks won't come in at all, but all the VHF signals are good, including a lot of stuff here in Texas and occasionally from Clovis and Cloudcroft,NM....both of which are well over 100 mi. from here!
