The squelch nob on top of the trx1 scanner doesn't show a number to see what you're on. Any suggestions, I don't hear much on the scanner and I am thinking it might be because the squelch is to high. My trx2 you know what number it's on. Thanks in advance.

If you turn the squelch fully anti clockwise it will be open and show an S in the display. Turn it clockwise until the S disappears. Take off the antenna when doing that.

If you hear that analog transmission are too noisy, perhaps some marine or aircraft channels, then turn it clockwise a little bit more until you hear analog transmissions without too much noise.

Where that arrow points, the hollow range of the marking, are probably the most useful settings. I have mine just at the lowest point of the hollow marking. Whistler didn't make the knob with some stepped raster to keep it in its setting so it is easily knocked out of position. Or actually I turn it by accident as I usually forget that it's not its volume controller, that it logically should be. Squelch are usually a set and forget thing but Whistler have some squelch action issues so they probably gave the squelch adjust the highest priority.

Actually it's just black like the rest of the scanner, no white
Yes what people here are neglecting to remember is that most TRX1 scanners stay in their chunky rubber case most of the time. But the case still has a similar marking, just instead of the black hole it's a raised line in the same spot.

Which reminds me I need to hit this thing with the air duster again.

:) Anti-Clockwise? Believe me when I say I have had brain farxs before but this is FUNNY! Been there, done that (but still laugh at myself when it happens...). I believe the word is "counterclockwise"? Maybe "turn left"? Sitting here bored and trying to come up with other terms but.... Aww never mind. Yeah, too late... LOL :)

I wrap a little piece of masking tape on the knob, adjust the squelch on an analog open ctcss freq. until the squelch just closes. Now put a little line using a magic marker directly in front of you on the knob. That is your squelch closing starting point.

Smart idea, that’s a classic cinematography trick. The same is done to mark focus zones on manual lenses. Beats trying to remember what o’clock position you left it in before.
